We wanted to bring our friends to try the famous Lijiacai but was really dissappointed this time around compared to 6 years ago. The dishes are overprized and never ever expect a good dish from a non-Cantonese chef cooking abalone/sea cucumber/sharkfin dish, it is so bad you feel like throwing it away. The service is below average and the plates are chipped/cracked. Every good chef knows the importance of using a good soya sauce when cooking. It is a different case here, we think they used Maggie soya sauce to cook which completely spoil the tastes of the food. The lobster dish is also another dissappointment.

I went here with my wife and a friend. We all considered it the best meal of our lives. We purchased the set meal for 380 RMB per person and we also ordered some TsingTao Beers. That price may seem high, but considering we got scallops, lobster, sweet and sour fish, duck, and many, many more dishes for that price, it was worth it.

We got the name and address of some websites and really thought, the restaurant would be special - one menu, cooked by a very good chef according to old recipes for the imperial family etc etc.
So, we got the hotel concierge to book a table. Getting there was relatively easy, seeing the house and their courtyard was promising.
But that's about it; the place has different rooms with 1-4 tables. We, unfortunately, were in a smelly, old, white-washed, neon-lit room.
The set menus are ranging from RMB 260 up to 2000 (!).
It’s supposed to be all about the specially prepared dishes. But quite honestly, we were not all that impressed, and the prices are outrageous.
It was not bad as such, but one can have authentic Chinese meals elsewhere, well prepared, with ‘’atmosphere’’, better serviced and all.
They only speak Chinese, which is not a problem for us. However, the service was not very good either.
It really seems, the owners are taking full advantage of the (inaccurate) reports on the internet websites of Clinton, Gates and/or some other American high profile visitors. As it turned out, Chinese customers are surprises, that so many foreigners visit such a mediocre restaurant. I cannot recommend it at all.
