This hotel is located in the Old Hutongs of Beijing. The buildings are laid out the same as they were many years ago. We had a small but very well appointed room towards the back of the hotel. Although in a busy location, there was very little noise and you can sit in the gardens outside the room and soak up the sunshine.

Most of the staff speak English and could not have been more helpful. Breakfast is served in a small restaurant and is plentiful. Evening meals are also served there and are well priced. It is only a 30 minute walk to centre of Beijing. Taxies are a short walk away but we found it much more fun and cheaper to take a toot-toot a motorised motorbike.

Located in an interesting area with shops, restaurants, bars and food stalls within 100 metres. Rooms are large and comfortable and beautifully decorated. Breakfast is so so but you will not go hungry providing you don't mind your food cold. Limited but efficient communication with the front desk and a slight indifference. PassBy restaurant a with short walk away with great food an Oz beer. Sack the gardener.

If you are a tourist in Beijing, I recommend you consider staying at the Courtyard 7. You get the real feel of staying in a Hutong. This one is 300 years old, but remodeled into a boutique hotel (Chinese-style, of course) four years ago. I was told that I was upgraded from a standard to a deluxe room, which was large, with a huge classic Chinese bed, couch, chairs and a separate work area. The bathroom was a clean-medium size with a large shower and good hot water (a sign says the water is solar heated so I am not sure how it would be in the winter) and two bottle amenities.
The entrance is in the alley and, after walking from the subway, I was met on the street by the staff, who speak perfect English, are really friendly, and checked me in quickly and showed me to the room. The only way in and out of the courtyard is through the entrance/office so you will get to know them well. There are buttons and doors and passages to get to the rooms so you need a guide the first time.
My rate included breakfast at the small restaurant; I only had coffee but it appeared to be a cook-to-order egg offering and not a big hotel style buffet.
The Hutong itself is great, and I guarantee you will take photos of it and show your friends.
The minor downsides are the free internet is slow (you will need a passcode that they write on your ticket envelope), the tv is small but does have a few English channels, and if there are people enjoying the courtyard, you will hear them (but otherwise this place is super-quiet).
The surrounding area is one of my favorites in Beijing, upper-class hip-and-cool and a great place to walk and take in the ambiance. Lots of clean take-away food places (around the corner was one that sold “exploding chicken” and “squid neck tempura’ (about 10RMB/$1.50), shops, and bars.
To get to the hotel you will really need a map or GPS, or if you take a taxi, make sure you have the name and address written in Chinese. You can take the 107 electric trolley (bus) from Dongzhimen station, or you can walk 15 minutes from Beixinqiao station. If you walk on the main road, there is a small red sign on the alley wall which points to the Courtyard 7, but it is not big and obvious.
For character, good rate, great location and good travel adventure, stay here.

This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. Perfect location, great staff and very good service. It's not a 5 star hotel but if you are looking for a great place to stay in Beijin - you should stay at Courtyard 7.

This hotel is locatel in the heart of Hutongs in Beijing!

It's quiet, clean and the rooms have a very traditional chinese style, you will enjoy it and very quiet.

The restaurant is quite good and the staff make the necessary effort to satisfy your curiosity. Very polite and very helpful.

Enjoy your stay, you will like it!

If you need some rest in Beijing: this is a perfect hotel for your stay.
It's a romantic little place... which means it looks really nice but is not so user friendly: wonderful bathrooms where you have to wash your hands bent over on the height of your knees or a romantic bed which makes it impossible to finde the correct way to sleep.
It's in the Dongcheng district and the walk to the subway takes you 10 min. or more.
Staff is great: good English knowledge, very helpful and funny! They take it serious and help you with everything they can.
A no go for us was the toilet: you have to put the paper in a basket... it's okay but not in this price class any more. And pay attention to your room selection: ours smelled not well...

The hotel location was excellent, I couldn't recommend a better place to stay than this suburb. The service was very good and our room was great (back house, standard room). The courtyards were equipped with numerous garden furniture, so when coming home after a day out, there was always space to sit and chill peacefully. Our stay was at the end of our China trip, and by then we really appreciated some peace and quiet in all the hustle and bustle you come across in China.

All in all though, this hotel is more for older people. It is not funky and it has no particular vibe. It attracts a large amount of European travellers in their 40s, 50s and 60s. Hence, a breakfast catering for the European market is served. Even though they serve freshly made eggs and offer a variety of cheeses and sausages, it is far from a good British bacon and eggs or a French omelette breakfast. I personally think they'd be better off serving a great Chinese traditional breakfast, instead of semi-good European stuff. But maybe that's just me?
This hotel is more for my mum than for myself, but still it is great an I would definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: We chose the back house (standard room), which was was absolutely fine. Best features were the beaut...
