This renovated courtyard building makes you feel like you're really in China, not in a generic hotel that could be anywhere in the world. The rooms were very comfortable, and had fridges, wifi, and excellent air conditioning. Breakfast lways had fresh fruit, pastries, yogurt and cooked to order eggs, and my son was thrilled to find American-style breakfast cereal (but only soymilk to put in it). We reserved two rooms, and were not able to get adjacent ones, but it worked out ok.

We loved the local streets nearby, which were filled with food shops and stores with interesting souvenirs (from hand-made notebooks to plants and zombies plushies), but as noted by other reviewers, taxis were not very willing to come down the alley and the front desk was not always able to call one for us. It's about 1/3 to 1/2 a mile to the subway station. The drum tower and lake district are about the same distance in the other direction. The bilingual and laminated map provided in the rooms was very helpful.

Room Tip: reserve early to get a deluxe room

It was exactly as it looked in the pictures. Our room was huge (bigger than I expected based on the reviews) and the bathroom was great.

But the best part was the staff. In a country where we needed a mandarin phrase book to get a taxi to the airport – the staff here had great English and were always happy to help. Gave us great restaurant recommendations (some of the best food I think I had in Beijing) and would write the addresses for us in Chinese.

Loved the little touches – like a universal power adaptor in each room, and the free wifi. Our friends even had a fridge in their room to keep our drinks cold. Breakfast was good (better than we experienced elsewhere in china). There is a shop to the right of the entrance (we didn’t see it until the day we left ) with cheep water and beer (and COLD).

Top this all of with a GREAT location and you have the best Beijing holiday ever. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again or recommend it to others.

Room Tip: room 15 is a larger room - but room 13 has a small fridge.

An awe inspiring gem of a place, hidden amongst the dusty old streets of Beijing. If it's authenticity you're after, with service to rival any 5* hotel, them this is the place. The second we arrived, 2 tiny ladies with the power of Rambo lifted our back breaking cases out of the taxi and through to our rooms. We simply humbly followed, smiling at the welcome received. We were here on business, but that didn't dampen my leisurely spirits here. I was calm, happy & relaxed the entire time. Nothing was too much trouble and life outside the hotel was eclectic, fast paced abd fun. This area knows how to gave a good time. I was very sad to leave. A real hidden gem.

Totally stunned by the beauty of the beautiful courtyard right in the middle of the busy hutongs. Smiles everywhere of the staff. We had a unforgetable stay. Our special thanks to Gyan Gao who first fixed our problem of getting a taxi to thr station as our travelagent forgot about us and then 3 minutes before departure came running in the train to give me back all our traveldocuments which I had forgotten due to the hurrying. Big thanks to him and the lovely people of Courtyard7!!!!

This hotel is great. Traditional courtyard style accommodation just off the main strip of one of Beijing's busiest hutongs. So you are right in the middle of the hustle and bustle but because it is a courtyard you can step into the grounds of the hotel and it is perfectly quiet and tranquil. The staff are lovely and extremely helpful. No faults at all.

We had a wonderful stay here in May. The room was clean with a large bathroom and very nicely decorated. Location was also great, we walked to the Lama Temple and to the Forbidden City. The courtyard is a very relaxing area to sit and write postcards, especially after a long day walking around the city. The hotel sits off a very cute street with stores and restaurants. Just note that it is in a small alley or hutong, and the cabs usually drop you off at one end so you may not get door to door service but it's only about a 5 minute walk. Some reviews said the metro was far, but the walk was also pretty quick and straightforward.

The staff was so nice and very helpful and they went above and beyond when my fiance asked if they could get me a birthday cake. They surprised me in the morning with a cake and candles and crown, and I'm pretty sure that they didn't even charge us for it. It was a wonderful surprise. Thank you Courtyard 7.
