“If you are not Chinese, don't stay here!”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

I only stayed one night, but the experience was extremely negative.
Nobody speaks any English, room was very cold and the heating didn't work, noisy room, the breakfast was terrible, taxi couldn't find the place even with the official address and instructions from the hotel staff on phone, no taxis available in this area (not even if you try to call one) - had to take a bus first to get closer to downtown to get a taxi...
If you are not Chinese, I strongly recommend to choose another place to stay.

This hotel is located in the ChangPing District - a northern suburb of Beijing. You won't find this area on most of the maps of Beijing that you get in western travel guides. But, don't let that discourage you. It is a lovely place and an easy cab or subway ride into the heart of the city.

This is actually a resort which includes several properties, a spa, a HUGE water park, a Karoake bar and many restaurants. We stayed in the hotel that fronts the property on the main road. Our room, however, was on the back side overlooking a garden. It was very quiet.

The staff were wonderful. We do not speak Chinese, but there was always someone there to help us communicate.

The room was large with an excellent wide screen TV. The bathroom had all the amenities that you find in a fine U.S. hotel, though the tub was a bit small for our over 6 foot frames. The beds were very firm, that was o.k. with us, but may be a surprise to some.

The hotel restaurants were very pleasant, but very expensive. There was a very nice local restaurant right outside the front door to the right. We ate there more than in the hotel as the food was great and very cheap.

The only complaint that I have is a minor one. When I travel internationally, I travel light and rely on laundry service to keep me going. The laundry costs in this hotel are VERY high - $8 U.S. to wash a plain cotton T-shirt. The service was excellent - no stains or shrinkage, everything returned promptly, etc. It was just pretty costly. The travel guides do warn you that hotel laundry is expensive in China and recommend that you go to a neighborhood laundry, intead. But, I could not find a neighborhood laundry near the hotel - can't read Chinese.

I will come back and post some pictures when I finish going through all of my shots from the trip.

  • Liked — Comfort and amenities
  • Disliked — Cost of laundry service.

This hotel is located beyond the 6th ring road, north of Beijing, so about an hr by taxi from downtown. Not really much going on near here, except that it's close to the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunication.

The complex includes a couple of hotels, a water sports park and a spa facility. Didn't partake, so can't comment on those.

The International Hotel itself is newly built, as of a few months before the '08 Olympics. It's done up with more of a western decor, and in the lobby, with the more ostentatious style favored by the Chinese.

The room is nice. Crisp sheets, with a duvet/comforter. The beds, while quite firm, bordering hard, are actually comfortable (if you're otherwise used to firm mattresses -- I slept very well). Room has normal other features, e.g. sitting chairs, flat screen tv, desk, and interestingly, a non-carpeted, but soft, floor. Bath robes, large bathroom, good water pressure, fluffy towels. Nothing to complain about here.

What's really to rave about is the hotel restaurant, in which I had several banquet style meals. The food is absolutely fantastic. Freshest, highest quality ingredients cooked perfectly, and, from US standard prices, at least, quite affordable (e.g. $10pp for a 5 dish lunch). Breakfast buffet less spectacularly good, but not bad.

Downside is that staff is pretty much only Mandarin speaking, except for basic service English, and, at the moment, not that polished.
