We loved this charming hotel with friendly, helpful staff who spoke English. The location was great with lots to explore and a subway stop nearby. Many taxis had a hard time finding it, so be sure to have the address written in Chinese and a map. It was clean, comfortable and had plenty of amenitites. There is an unpleasant odor at times, but we soon realized the entire area (and all of Beijing) has air quality issues and it is not the hotel per se. If you are looking for a more authentic experience but still want it to meet Western standards, this is an excellent choice.

We have just returned from 3 weeks travelling around China and I feel compelled to write a review to say how FANTASTIC this hotel is! We stayed in a standard double room for 2 nights at the end of our trip and chose it as we were looking for a courtyard style hotel with a bit of luxury and this fitted the bill exactly!

The hotel has 8 rooms (i think!) and the service reflects this - v.personal, will do anything for you to make your stay in Beijing better and with good english. It Is just off one of the main streets only a 2 minute walk from the hotel to the subway - which means its easy to get around - although the location is pretty good in itself if you just want to walk to see things around the immediate area - even the forbidden city is within walking distance. As it is on it's own street and not the main road the hotel inside and within the courtyard area is very quiet - just what you need to get away from the hustle and bustle of this city.

We had a standard room with the most comfortable bed of all the hotels we stayed in!! The room was big with a large LCD TV, good quality furniture and really nice lighting. The bathroom was also a really good size with a powerful shower. At the time we were visiting, Beijing was experiencing it's 1st cold spell of the autumn - the room was really toasty with heating that could be individually controlled room to room and lovely after a long day's sighseeing. The hotel also has free wi-fi which came in handy when checking our return flight.

We opted to take breakfast one morning - which is taken as a buffet breakfast in the hotel opposite (similar style - but a lot bigger ?owned by same people?). Is was expensive by Chinese standards at 88 RMB each but the selection and service was fantastic - both chinese style breakfast and western - and we eat so much that we managed a full day of sighseeing without having to stop for food until 8pm in the evening.

On the 1st night we were left a lovely basket of fruit in the room we don't know if this was because of the note informing us that the water would be going off for 3 hours the following morning or is just standard - but we throughly enjoyed it!

On the evening prior to our departure the hotel booked us a taxi for the following morning with no service charge - and the taxi driver even rang when he was outside - so we didn't have to wait in the below freezing temperatures of a 5am Beijing morning.

Overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone and can only think it is not higher rated on tripadvisor due to the small number of rooms and thus less people to write reviews!

It is as the pictures depict. We had deluxe rooms #1 and #2. Both were lovely with tall ceilings, comfy beds, very nice decor, large bathrooms with nice toiletries supplied (although the bottles were in Chinese and it took some time to decipher which bottles were which - shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, hand soap, etc.). The courtyard area was great for my children, with enough room to play and enjoy the songbird and goldfish. The staff were very friendly but English was limited. But we were always able to communicate our needs and get advice. Taxis were called to the door for us. It was nice not to have to walk out to the main road every time we went somewhere. The location is pretty good, although we didn't find the closest tourist sites really walking distance with a 5 and 7 yr old. There were some casual restaurants with limited English menus a couple of blocks away.
We enjoyed our private breakfast room on the chilly mornings when we couldn't take part of the courtyard tables. What we thought to most likely be room #4 was actually a private dining room with ensuite bathroom. What a lovely way to start our day as a family. Breakfast was always the same, though, which got a bit boring by the 5th day - eggs, bacon, toast, coffee/tea/juice and fruit. But nicely prepared and presented.
We arranged to have a private dinner one night at the hotel - there is no restaurant per se but you can request lunch/dinner be prepared for you. Cost was about USD$20/person and we were presented with a huge array of Chinese dishes, some very exotic to us and others just plain delicious. My children couldn't quite adapt to the different tastes on the table, though, so be prepared if you have a picky-eater with you.
My only complaints would be: street noise as the walls/windows to our rooms were streetside. Local vendors and construction workers are up very early! But on the flip side it made us feel a part of a community to hear the neighborhood wake up and it wasn't so much of a problem that we lost too much sleep. Not the hotel's fault, either. The major problem was the smell coming from the drain in room #1. It was awful! Room #2 was just fine, no smell. It was also a large room which was nice to have with small children.
While our reservation was made for a room for 1 adult and 2 children, at first the hotel staff refused to put an extra mattress in the room and insisted that they didn't have one, that we would have to sleep together and it was a room for 2 people. After much discussion over why they accepted a reservation for 3 if it's a room for two, some phone calls were made and I was offered an additional mattress for RMB350/night - ridiculous! I held my ground and within an hour a mattress magically appeared and was placed in the room at no extra charge.
Overall, though, a very positive experience.

This is a very nice boutique courtyard hotel located in the city center of Beijing. Even though the building itself is brand new , the street and its trees are old and the decoration of the rooms reminds of ancient times. There's a subway just around the corner and the main shopping street and forbidden city are in walking distance. We booked a deluxe room facing the courtyard during the Olympic Games. After some negotiating with the hotel we got a special deal and found the rate very reasonable. Especially we loved the location, courtyard, high ceiling, decoration, bathroom and friendly staff. If you don’t like to stay at an other impersonal five star hotel, then we strongly recommend you to try this boutique hotel. If you prefer to have a spa, swimming pool, buffet, gym, meeting-room, etc then go for something else.
