My family of 2 adults and 2 young kids stayed for 10 nights at the Courtyard Marriott Beijing Northeast in April 2012. We weren't particularly enarmoured of Beijing with its gridlock traffic, massive crowds and general chaos. Thank god we stayed at this hotel, which was a haven from the ugly city outside.
My impression of the hotel is that it is right up there with the Renaissance and JW Marriott hotels of this world. It has brand new rooms that are really cosy and elegant. Very modern bathroom facilities and wonderful twin queensize beds that could sleep 4 comfortable.
What was really impressive was the indoor pool and jacuzzi on the 4th floor. Both were huge for a city hotel and really beautiful and inviting. The pool was heated to just the right temperature. The hot jacuzzi was the largest I've ever seen in any hotel and it was bathed in a soothing blue light.
The hotel also had free Wifi (sign up as Marriott rewards members first) and free computers to use at the Momo Cafe with internet.
The location of the hotel might be an issue. It is halfway between the airport and downtown Beijing (taxi costs about $60RMB from the airport). Therefore it is not the best location for those who want to be near all the action downtown. However Beijing is huge and sprawling and no matter where you stay you will be near certain attractions and far away from others. This Courtyard Marriott is nearer to the Great Wall, Summer Palace and the Olympic Stadium than the downtown hotels and further away from the Forbidden City, Beihai Park and other downtown attractions. Note, however, that a taxi ride downtown to the Forbidden City, for e.g. is only about $40RMB and takes about 30 minutes. This was a tradeoff we were happy to make.
Near the hotel there are some small local restaurants and grocery stores within about 150 meters walking distance (turn left at the entrance). There is a mall about 15 minutes walk away called New World Shopping centre with betters restaurants and shops and a Starbucks. If you don't want to do the walk just take a $10RMB taxi ride there and back.
There are always taxis waiting outside the hotel for passengers. I would not recommend taking the busses or subway (not near the hotel) from the hotel as this takes more time and taxis are cheap and readily available at the hotel.
Food was good but expensive as it usually is in a hotel.
We really loved our stay here and would certainly come back to this great hotel.
