After staying in many hostels in many cities in China, I can say that this hostel is by far my favorite. I had a great time with the staff, they are all friendly and welcoming. The location is great, close to bar street where many Western and Chinese restaurants are located. The locally priced beers are cheaper than I've seen in Shanghai, even for international brands. They have great priced tours to many attractions across town, such as Jinshanling, Badaling and Mutianyu sections of the Great Wall; hutong tour; basic Beijing tour; Beijing at night; Peking Opera with ride to there; Acrobatics show with ride to there as well; and Kung Fu show with a ride there as well. The Kung Fu show I recommend, it was a play and some kick-butt martial arts as well. The rooms are decent and prices reasonable. I will always stay here when in Beijing.

Great place to stay in the heart of it all. After being out in the cold all day there was nothing better than walking into sanlitun with the central heating kissing your face. It is lovely and warm with a vibrant atmosphere with all ages.

The staff were extremely helpful and they will advise you on whatever you ask despite previous negative trip advisor comments.

Rooms very spacious and good bathrooms.

Beer was cheap 15y for a pint. Good food. Wi-fi only downstairs and was poor.

Good value for money and more like staying at a friends house. Recommended.

We really liked this hostel! We had a double room, it was more like a hotel. Large room, good light and windows. Cute little bar on the ground floor, meals looked good, however it was a little pricey. We always ate out instead.
The hostel dog was a fun addition. The bathrooms were always very clean, and the place was quiet. No trouble sleeping.
The large Sanlitun Shopping Complex was 5 minutes walk up a main road, all nice and close.
Would stay again.

Sanlitun was a really great overall experience in a city and country that can be simultaneously demanding and confusing.

The staff was incredibly sweet (except for one girl named Jane who consistently messed up our orders, could not answer our questions, etc) and were extremely helpful with directions, tips and knowledge. One guy even found us 8 hours later after we paid too much and gave us our money back.

We chose to stay in the 8 bed dorms and it really wasn't bad at all as these rooms are huge. One night we were in a 2 bed private and it was cleaner than some hotels we've stayed at in China and Vietnam. They provide really organized trips to the Great Wall and there's free dumpling-crafting and all you can eat/drink buffets during the week to stretch your RMB.

Things to note: The metro is a little far if you have a lot of stuff. This was arguably the cleanest hostel - every where we turned someone was cleaning the floor/bathroom/common room etc. They have the most adorable hostel dog we've encountered in our travels that loves to play and doesn't bite. The crowd was very friendly when we went. The area of Sanlitun has some great watering holes and is where the most of the embassies are so it's a very safe area.

All in all we stayed here for a week and never regretted it.

Room Tip: The cheaper rates are online for sure.

We were most pleasantly surprised on arrival at Sanlitun. The hostel was very good value, clean and well run. We were in an 8 bed dorm which literally cost about £3 a night, but it was large, light, and spacious with lockers for personal belongings. There was a nice lounge area where you could have some decent western and oriental dishes accompanied by a drink at the bar. The atmosphere was great and there were loads of other backpackers/ travellers about. There was an abundance of staff willing to help, and overall I was very impressed with the setup as a whole. Location was pretty good as well!

nothing wrong with the dorm, but the hostel was more of a nightclub/bar. The self catering facilities were non existent, and you can only drink their overpriced beer in all the communal areas. The travel advice on offer was only for the tours they sold, otherwise they pretended not to know what you were talking about! Some of the staff were very friendly, but in general they were rude and unhelpful. Definately worth paying a bit extra to stay somewhere friendlier, quieter and with cheaper beer.

I have stayed in a few hostels over the past few weeks and have selected the hostel using tripadvisor recommendations and they just keep getting better and better and the Sanlitun is no exception. It is perfect.

We stayed in a 3 bed private room with en-suite for 4 nights. The room was perfect. Felt like a hotel but for the price of a hostel. It was clean and comfortable. The room was cleaned every day(not like some places i have been)
The common area down stairs and the bar was one of the highlights of the place. It is a great place to meet other travelers and have a great time. They have a pool table which is open till 12pm and is the perfect place to drink before heading out to the nightlife that is only a quick 5 minute walk away at the workers stadium or 10 mins if you prefer Bar street.
The bar is good with alright priced beers and really good food. Every Friday night they have dumpling parties which was a hell of a lot better and more fun then i expected. Plus tasted great.
The staff are extremely helpful and friendly.
The wifi works perfectly in the common areas and part of the 2nd floor but dont expect it in your rooms.
The location is great for nightlife and the subway is about a 10 minute walk away and is very easy to use.
