My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast walking tour around the hutongs with Garth and Jamie. They were so friendly and knowledgeable about the food, the city and Chinese history/culture/language, not to mention very flexible - even making special efforts to locate one person who had missed the start of the tour (without disrupting the tour for the rest of us). The food was all delicious, and eating your way around is a great way to get to know a new city. Although there was a lot of food, the tour was still well paced. It was a hot day, so we definitely appreciated the quiet coffee break on a terrace to get out of the sun and take a rest from gobbling down dumplings, jianbing, fried pastries and other yummy treats. Warning - pace yourself, as there's no way you can possibly eat everything on offer!

We did the night tour with Garth, exploring the food delights of the hutongs and local hidden gems. Garth is a Beijing food critic / journalist so you can't beat him for local food knowledge. Unlike previous food tours, we thought the food at all 6 stops was delicious and liked that there was a beer/soft drink at each stop.

Garth was an excellent guide, teaching us all about the history of Beijing and the provenance of all the different dishes. One of the members of our group was vegetarian and one was allergic to gluten but this did not faze Garth who adjusted the menu accordingly on the fly. At the end of the evening we each received a leaflet containing all of the food stops, a couple of recipes to try at home and some other foodie and non-foodie recommendations.

Wow, sounds like you had a great time with Garth. We are so happy to hear that! It is our pleasure to eat with foodies like yourself, and we do our best to host foodies with all kinds of dietary restrictions – everyone deserves to eat well! Come and eat with us again in Shanghai or Beijing.

First of all a great evening food tour - good food and many different things.
Further Kelly was able to tell a lot about the hutongs, so it was more or less a combination of food tour and a guided tour of the hutongs.
We can higly recommend the tour.

Our guide for the breakfast tour in the Hutongs was Katie. She was outstanding and her knowledge was amazing. We started with tofu, tried several delicious street foods including fried sugary pastry and Chinese crepes. We also tried several types of Dumplings and all were very yummy.

We really had a great morning. The tour was at a good pace. I plan to do the dinner tour when I am back in Beijing in the future.

Our tour guide was Garth. Besides his outstanding knowledge of the local cuisine he was well versed on the City's history which made the tour even more enjoyable. We did this tour on our first night in Beijing which provided us with an excellent introduction of the City's cuisine and history. Highly recommended tour. Make sure you take the subway to the meeting point.

Thanks for your kind review. We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your walking food tour with Garth. The traffic in Beijing is indeed very unpredictable, so we agree - the subway is definitely is the best choice, which is why we put our tour start point right next to the subway entrance. Come and eat with us again in Shanghai or Beijing!
