Description: This is a great vegetarian Buddhist 'fake meat' place. You can get a large meal for $4 (Y30) a person. The menu is in clear English. Though the wait staff speaks little English, pointing to the menu works just fine. Even my friends skeptical of all things tofu loved the place. The mushroom soup is amazing. The restauranted is located one entertaining mile walk south of Tiananmen Square. Be sure to duck into some alleyways to your right and left along the way for an improv Hutong tour.

This historic restaurant offers an excellent assortment of Chinese Buddhist vegetarian dishes, many of which look and taste like their meat equivalents. I love the place, although it does vary between very good and excellent. Their "new" location is perhaps a bit less festive than their older spot on Qianmen dajie, but one goes for the food.

This place is located at 10 mins away from the Station and has a surprisingly delectable menu. It's a vegan restaurant and their mock meat dishes were super tasty! The steamed dumplings were nothing great, they were a bit rubbery but the soy fired rice was super yummy! It helps to go in a bigger group as the portions are large and we were unable to finish a lot of stuff that we ordered. The service, however, was disappointing. Expect to be completely ignored by the staff and had to wait for ages whenever we wanted to ask for something (menu, water etc). The girl who served us water (after we asked for it) looked like she was pissed that we hailed her to request something. But the place is worth visiting for a quick lunch or dinner if you are around the tourist spots nearby. Their drinks selection isn't that good either but definitely try the mock meat dishes and the fried rice.

This restaurant is located about a 5 minute walk from our hotel. It is a very popular restaurant. Menu is quite extensive with pictures so ordering was a breeze. We ordered 2 vegetable dishes plus a mock sweet sour dish, 2 portions of rice and a pot of tea. The food was well presented, delicious and portions were also adequate. Service was good and pricing reasonable. We enjoyed our meal here and will return.

We would never have realised this is a vegetarian restaurant without trip advisor. Many of the reviews were off putting as they raved about the mock meat which we really dislike. But we did manage to put together a very good meal and it was both cheap and delicious

Great for vegetarians and vegans. No questions about whether something is vegetarian but maybe cooked in chicken broth. No animal fat or meat in any direction. I am not a vegetarian but enjoyed the meal. Husband is vegetarian and enjoyed it more. Creative uses of soy products in all manner of shapes, sizes and textures make for some interesting mock meat specialties. Dumplings, rice and soups can round out the meal. Friendly staff although we benefitted from a fluent speaker in our midst who did all the ordering. Very inexpensive. Under 500 RMB for 4 people: soup, three cold dishes, three hot dishes, and beer. Western style toilet too!
