“Not as good as the Shanghai version”

Neighborhood: Chongwenmen
Description: This is a great vegetarian Buddhist 'fake meat' place. You can get a large meal for $4 (Y30) a person. The menu is in clear English. Though the wait staff speaks little English, pointing to the menu works just fine. Even my friends skeptical of all things tofu loved the place. The mushroom soup is amazing. The restauranted is located one entertaining mile walk south of Tiananmen Square. Be sure to duck into some alleyways to your right and left along the way for an improv Hutong tour.

The food was good but slightly more pricey than thr Shanghai version! Worth a visit if you are a vegetarian in Beijing.

Food was well prepared and tasty, considering that this is a vegetarian outlet, where meat is not used to enhance the flavour of the dishes. There were quite a good number of dishes, with different tastes. I don't know the prices though since our tour guide took us there and the meal was part of our tour package.

This vegetarian restaraunt is a 15 min walk from the front gate of the Forbiden Palace or a 40 min walk for the back gate if you know where you are going.
The establishment is well designed and the staff are quite friendly. I am not sure if any of them speak English but not to worry plenty of pictures on the menu.
We trted many dishes and my favorite was the tofu lamb. It was mildly spicy and just to my liking. If you visit Beijing often put it on your must eat at list even if you are not vegetarian!
A texture and taste delight.
Enjoy!!!!!!

First, this restaurant is now at the intersection of Quianmen East and Quinian. From the Chongwenmen subway stop, it's the next major intersection to the West. You can't miss it -- a garish two-story building on the SW corner of the intersection. The address is 2 Quianmen East. Most internet sources still give an old, wrong address.

Food: great. There's plenty of mock-meat, but if you're not into mocking meat there are lots of veg dishes that don't pretend to be anything else. They have a nice big picture menu with English. Lots of different flavors: have the courage to just try stuff. They'll do doggy bags. They serve beer. Service is not exceptionally fast, but friendly.
