We stayed at the non-smoking 9th floor. it is ovelooking the garden at the 8th floor and atrium. the room is nice. it is beside the joy city mall so shopping is not a problem. and it is a 5 minutes walk from the subway station ( metro). cleanliness is a bit low as first day we came in the tub has hair already and carpet was not cleaned properly. but front desk staff are accommodating and help us as they can. Wifi available at the lobby while free "wired" internet available in the room.

This hotel is clean, neat and the staff are friendly and efficient. We stayed on the 8th floor with a lovely garden area in the centre. The staff were helpful with advise for our travel plans as we were travelling alone and making our own way around. It is next door to a large shopping centre with a multitude of places to choose from for meals. We stayed four nights and enjoyed our stay.

Although there are many hotels within a 15-minute walk of Xidan, Joy City is only one of a few right where the action is. And I mean, in the middle of it all. The hotel is part of the Joy City complex, which is a massive shopping mall (with a good, busy food court). Xidan subway is two-three minutes' walk away, and the airport shuttle bus stop (the first/final stop of the Xidan airport shuttle bus) is just beyond that. Despite the location (Xidan is probably the "loudest" area in Beijing--comparable to Tokyo's Harajuku), the hotel itself is surprisingly very quiet. The entrance is connected to the mall, but the main doors are actually on a side street. The high-ceilinged lobby resembles some western 4-stars. Hotel is a bit unusual--there aren't that many rooms since the shopping mall, offices, and also serviced residences share the same tower. The layout is designed atrium-style. Room itself was large, and had a kitchenette with hot plate and sink. Bed was on the firm side, but not as hard as many Chinese hotels. There was CNN and other satellite channels. Bathroom was clean, had tub and separate shower, and stocked with amenities. There were bathrobes for guests but too small for me. Breakfast at the four seasons restaurant was good, with the usual Chinese-Western buffet mix found at better hotels, but when I stayed they also had salmon sashimi. Coffee was very watery though. I tried to order room service late late night but was told they stopped at 2am.

There were a couple of other minuses. While check-in was fine, with friendly staff, I did have to wait for the room to be cleaned even though it was well past allowed check-in time. I chose to wait in the cafe to the left of the lobby, and although I was only one of two customers at the time service was dreadfully slow. Check-out was painfully slow--it was busy, people were cutting in line, and there was no decent management of the process. Also, if you're a taxi taker it is not the best area to get one--yes there are taxis but not nearly as many as the number of people needing them in this area.

Joycity is a modern, apartment-style atrium hotel that's quiet but only an elevator ride away from the action.

We loved this hotel. The staff were helpful and some of the staff spoke good English. We upgraded to the business room which was of a good size. The bed was comfortable and the cleaning met our expectations. Breakfast was not included but on one morning we tried the breakfast. Predominately chinese and we quite enjoyed the food but a limited selection. Free internet but it is wired in the room. Pool fitness centre and massages available at the hotel. The pool is located in the shopping centre on the 9th floor and is olympic size. You are not allowed to swim without a bathing cap.

Taxis are not waiting but are readily available at the front door. If not the conceirage will flag one for you. During peak and rain it can be difficult to get a taxi but we usually never waited more than 10 minutes. Banks nearby for foreign exchange. Walking distance to Mcdonalds KFC and Starbucks etc. Personally while I am in China I prefer to eat the local food.

The hotel is attached to a shopping centre which has several floors of restaurants, supermarket, bakery basically whatever you need. The only restaurant we dined at the shopping centre was Bellagio and the dining eperience was superb and reasonably priced. Gets good reviews here on tripadvisor.

Highly recommended hotel.

Just like to say that this happens to be the best hotel i ever stayed while in china. i had been the china many of times but this is the only hotel that i really like. the hotel is connected to a big shopping mall. all u need is look for a door that connects both the hotel and the mall together near the lobby area. so regardless how heavy the snow, or wind outside, you can still go from hotel to the mall easily. but do keep in mind that the door will be locked at 10pm sharp. sorry i cant actually say how many i paid for the accommodation because it was included in my tour package. i stayed for 3 nights in this hotel. 2 nights at the corner room of the hotel while the other night on the centre room. but, both rooms were clean and trendy. i would love to stay there again.

The location of the hotel adjacent to an upscale shopping mall made the kids and the shopaholics in the group dizzy with pleasure. Indeed, the hotel seems to have everything one can ask for. The atrium which was centrally located was particularly peaceful with the small garden and love birds chirping. Overall, the general look of the hotel was quite good. But on the second night, we started to notice that cups used weren't washed. Toilets started to clog or didn't flush. When you are given only one room key, it becomes troublesome to have to get up to open the door for your roommate back from shopping. But the hotel tells you that they don't have enough room keys.

Tips & guidelines:
Watch out for the umbrellas and wheelchairs. You pay a deposit of 100 RMB for an umbrella (Better to buy one at the supermarket or at watsons) and 500 RMB for one wheelchair.
If you have to borrow them, make very sure that these are fully operational. We were issued a wheelchair with a loose armrest. Our mistake - we should have insisted to have it changed. As it is, a screw got loose. The management of the hotel (even up to the General Manager) couldn't decide how to resolve the problem of the lost screw. Finally, we got back only 200 RMB out of 500 RMB.
- Local hotels (this is a 4 star one) can be nice but don't expect the same service or understanding that you could get with an international chain.
