The hotel is located close to a metro station and well-priced restaurants. Several shopping malls are within easy reach via the metro system, which is very easy to use and cheap. The first room we stayed in had dirty carpets and the second room had problems with the A/C system but over all the hotel was good.

Room Tip: Ask if you can see a few rooms so you can choose the best of them. Asking for a complementary breakf...

This place was horrible. I know this is not the most expensive hotel around, but after reading the reviews I thought I would give it a try. My first impression was good. I was relieved it looked like a decent place, however I was wrong. Our toilet got blocked and it took hours to get it fixed. I kept going to the lobby, but the receptionist kept telling me it was fixed. I kept telling her it wasn't. Back and forth, back and forth. The room was dark and unpleasant. The bathroom looked like you needed to wear flip flops. I know that it is customary for the locals to spit, but you could build a sandcastle in the ashtrays. We asked for the air conditioning to be turned on in our room, but it wasn't. And to make it worse, they overcharged us on the rate they initially agreed on and took 200 RMB that was supposed to be an incidentals deposit they never returned. I really feel like we were robbed and I would not recommend this place for anyone. Horrible

Stayed here for four nights on a business trip. Hotel is about a 30 minute taxi ride to Tianemen Square. There's a subway station close by too. Rooms were spacious and bathroom was nice. Had breakfast at the hotel every morning and food was very good. Staff was pleasant and attentive although not many spoke English. There are restaurants within walking distance of the hotel.

I was very pleasantly surprised by this 4 star hotel. It is very tastefully furnished and is modern in every way that matters. It is very popular with local (Chinese) tourists, but also caters well to foreign tourists.
One definite perk is the all you can eat breakfast buffet, included in the price. It was huge. There was a tremendous amount of variety and it was fresh and different every day. It's an opportunity to try new Chinese dishes, but also find many familiar fruits and preferences.
Check in/out was easy and prompt, the room was very comfortable. The internet access was included and worked fine... except that Gmail was blocked. (As I write in Summer 2011 we are in the midst of an ongoing government communications disruption campaign). It would be nice if the hotel got the VPN or whatever it needs to do to make sure that all of the internet is accessible to its guests. Most foreign businesses and individuals in Beijing have their own, but tourists should be able to rely on their hotels. If Gmail is not important to you, the internet works great.
My stay at this hotel was at the end of a lengthy Asian trip. I give this hotel the prize for most comfortable and luxurious bedding. I regretted not having more time available to spend on the mattress, it was a very restful bed.
Overall, I'd stay at this hotel again if I were going to stay in the Haidian district.

I booked by location and was pleasantly surprised by how good this hotel is. Comfortable room, most of the usual amenities, quiet, within a two-minute walk to the National Library and subway station. It seemed that I was the only Westerner in the hotel, so language skills of the staff were fairly rudimentary, but I have no complaints. When I had trouble with the air conditioning, they had it fixed within 15 minutes. (True, the first person who came thought they were there to fix the television, but we quickly got it sorted.) Excellent, large bathroom with separate bath tub and shower. Large closet with proper hangers and a safe. Excellent broadband internet connection (by cable). Small-ish desk for serious worker. Overall the cleanliness was good, but the carpets had clearly seen better days. Hotel restaurant pretty good. Wide choice at breakfast. Don't be shy of asking the chef to whip you up an omelet. Crap location for shoppers or those seeking out the nightlife (note:the television only has Chinese channels), but happily the subway station is nearby. Would I stay there again? Definitely.

Hubei Hotel is not a chain hotel but owned by the Hubei province government. Its pretty good, with reasonable English and Chinese food for breakfasts. There is also lunch and evening buffet food, although is not particularly hot, and a more upmarket restaurant which I did not try. There is also a health/massage room, and some boutique shops. Fast broadband internet is available in the rooms via standard rj45 cable (not wireless), as well as tv with some western channels. Rooms and the ensuite bathrooms are kept clean and well maintained and are of excellent size. The only downsides to this hotel are: carpets (in corridors and parts of the bedroom) are quite dirty, only a few of the desk staff speak English. There are plenty of restaurants near by, both over the footbridge and also a few minutes walk to the right of the hotel. There is a bus stop right outside, including direct buses to the summer palace (no. 332 or 732).
