New Palm Tree hotel is in a great location in Mombasa, close to Old Town and the Fort..The hotel is tired and dated but rates are relatively cheap..Rooms are basic but have airconditioning....hot water is a bit of hit and miss.We stayed a few nights and rooms are not cleaned each night. However on plus side has free wifi and a great internal rooftop courtyard which seems miles away from the bustle of Mombasa..Breakfast was simple and same every day.Downstairs toilets were disgusting and dirty but rooms were relatively clean...

Room Tip: ask to see rooms first..area couple that are small and tucked away that are not too good.we booked o...

The hotel is a bit difficult to find due too poor marcation on the outside of the building. Look for
it on the oppisite side of the street from Barclays Bank in Nkrumah Road. The ground floor is a big lobby with access to the restaurants. One floor up the rooms surround a rooftop courtyard.
Rooms look a bit run down and could do with some new furniture and a paint job, but they offer
good beds, fan, phone, tv and in my case airco. Shower had one of those tricky electric shower
heaters and a shower head that produced no more than a trickle, but everything was quite clean.Staff was friendly and informative. Breakfast (buffet with hot dishes made to order) was good, but the restaurant looked a bit gloomy and a constant buzz of flies rather spoilt my meal. Its good location - close to Fort Jesus, the old city and the business district - makes this hotel a decent option for a good price.

Read about New Palm Tree hotel at trip advisor and it was thrue what people write. The hotel was nice and clean. Friendly and helpful staff. In the very centre of Mombasa. Easy to get around with Matato. Went to Mombasa Beach nealry everyday and paid 60 Ksh back and forth. The breakfast was simple but nice. Eggs some sausages pncakes.Would not mind to go back here. This hotel was also the cheapest hotel in Mombasa and it had aircondition. I stayed in this hotel 12 nights.

Room was very big (we are Mum Dad and one teenage son) - four beds 2 single and a double, ensuite, mini fridge, TV. Room cleanliness average - large bare floor that felt gritty if you were bare foot. One window was covered by a board. Air condiditoned. Very good value for money and brakfast was included in the price although we went to Aroma Cafe down the road which had lovely food. Only a stroll to the Fort and Old town. Couldn't get internet on the top floor. Roof top courtyard quite nice. More of a backpacker type clientèle. Would go back.

Nothing special about this place but I would say you get value for money. The location is good and there is always a tuk tuk shooting past if you have to go anywhere to far away. 4-5 minute walk from fort Jesus and the Old Town area. Rooms had A/C which is a must, small TV, large bed with mosquito net what more do you need for $30? Breakfast was pretty bad but I did get there late and, well, TIA!

We stayed one night at the New Palm Tree in Mombasa on our way to Nairobi and it was an excellent choice. The location is outstanding - situated within walking-distance from the citadel and the old town of Mombasa with a lot of restaurants, bars etc. nearby.

For a fairly cheap city hotel the rooms are tidy and clean with mosquito-nets, aircon (didn't try it), fan etc. What more do you need? Plus the terrace gives you the rare opportunity to hang out in the open right in front of your room, relax, read a book, write emails (wifi included) etc. All in all not a fancy, but decent and tidy city hotel you cannot necessarily expect to find in Kenya.

The restaurant in the lobby offers swahili dishes, coffee and cakes at reasonable prices and also the breakfast (included) was much better than we expected after reading some of the reviews here: freshly fried eggs and pancakes, sausages, juice, coffee and tea as much as you like. A good start for our roadtrip to Nairobi.

Room Tip: Rooms on the terrace which are facing the parking lot and not the main road are pretty quiet.
