Not to big very interesting, lots to see loved the giraffes, our guide told us all the history about the park we fed the giraffes. The monkeys are all running around as are the deer. The ground is a little uneven so wear good shoes

What I loved about this visit was the ecology, the understanding that it takes plants, insects, animals to form a balanced ecosystem - its not just about the animals. Fantastic to see the Hippo's come out of the water for feeding time and how difficult it is to breed them intends that man cannot always engineer things the way they think it should turn out.

Seeing the crocs come out the water, stepping on each other to get height to get the dangling meat overhead will take a long time to forget, along with the guide's quip that they got excited seeing whiite meat as they get fed up with black meat, yes racialised language but then who am I to judge anyone.

One thing I found fascinating is their fish breeding programme and ow they bred a fish which the Heron mistakes for a leaf and leaves the pond alone...ingenious...do visit and enjoy...

This is a good place to learn the environment. I love the giant tortoise and the millipedes symbiosis theory with the Pine trees. Very educational!

Haller Park is not the most modern of zoos. But it is interesting to be able to feed the giraffes and see some crocodiles up close. Hate to see animals confined, but guess there is a reason.

We drove our hired car to Haller Park which is just on the outskirts of Mombasa. It was good to get out into the fresh air away from all the traffic. The park was fairly quiet when we arrived in the morning and there were animals wandering about the car park which was lovely. Your entrance fee provides you with a guide/ranger who walks and talks you through the park pointing out the plants, animals, birds and reptiles as you go. It was very informal and you can ask questions and get time to take photos.
Feeding time for the hippos and the crocodiles is in the afternoon, so we were able to return later in the day using the same ticket. It was amusing to watch the hippos being fed as lots of other animals and birds wanted to share it whilst there was a lot of jaw snapping and splashing in the crocodile pool when the food was dangling just above their heads. You can also feed the giraffes. For a few shillings you may purchase a bag of dried giraffe food and hand feed them. Great fun - they are very gentle eaters.
