Owner description: Fort Jesus is Mombasa’s most popular tourist attraction. The fort, located along the coastline near the Old Town, is a monumental piece of architecture that was built in the 16th century by the Portuguese. The fort has a museum that displays various artifacts from the era where Mombasa served as a transit point for the slave trade and commodities, and which enjoyed regular visits by seafarers and the like.

Visiting Fort Jesus in Mombasa is a must for all tourists.Learn about teh rich coastal history and its people . Its advisable to pay the guides a small fee to better understand what happened at the for while walking through it.
The view of the fort is magnificent with views of the old part and the Indian Ocean.
If you have time, make sure you try out the Mombasa Light Show, which involves an evening show ride to Fort Jesus, a light show and dinner.

I visited Fort Jesus only once in my life and was disappointed that I had no more time to go through it slowly and properly. This fort is massive and magnificent and I wonder how it looked like back in 16th century with all the surrounding areas different than a modern Mombasa now.

I was standing and watching the ocean and thinking about those seafarers putting an anchor here for different reasons, place bustling with activities, sinister and good ones.

This place does not need much to evoke your imagination... I must go back there sometime in the future and spend a whole day and evening, soaking in the magic of Fort Jesus slowly...

I have visited Fort Jesus twice and was disappointed this trip because I ran out of days and couldn't do the night trip which includes meal and light show. I have been told it is great value for money and will definately make it a priority next time I get to Bamburi Beach

Good museum, very interesting items, surprisingly not that well preserved though! Glad we had a guide to point things out around the site, lovely views over harbour
