Returned home 9th Oct after a 2 week stay at the Voyager. From begining to end, the staff at this hotel could not have done more. Friendly, smiling, helpful - I have never received this sort of service anywhere else! We had a problem with our safe which wasn't resolved until the second day and because of our 'inconvenience and distress' they waived the charge!
We had booked a superior sea view room - well worth the supplement as the view was so beautiful and it was lovely to go to sleep listening to the sea! A few reviews state that the rooms are in need of updating; ours was fine - spotlessly clean, plenty of hot water, (toilet sometimes not flushing well) and I didn't find the water salty at all. My only negatives are, not enough drawer space and the bed was very hard.
The food was good and varied - I will try most things but am a bit fussy about meat (at home as well as abroad) so I do tend to go for pasta or the veggie option. There is a limit to the amount of curry I can eat! Bit more veggie variety please! Service was excellent. Salads particularly good - very fresh.
The entertainment was very good - having been disappointed in the past with 'in-house' entertainment this was a pleasant surprise. Also, a live band and acrobats were brought in from Mombasa...Returned home 9th Oct after a 2 week stay at the Voyager. From begining to end, the staff at this hotel could not have done more. We tended to round our evening off at the lookout bar - amazing setting.
Highly recommend the glass bottom boat trip - Mohammed our guide was extremely knowledgeable and the snorkelling superb.
We booked our safari with JT (separate review) - if you want a safari, he's your man!
Spent our relaxing time at the infinity pool to take advantage of the sea breeze - lovely spot and thanks to Margaret we were kept well supplied with drinks!
The sea was as warm as a bath - you just have to learn how to run the gauntlet with the beach sellers. If you want to buy HAGGLE - you will get a bargain.
We booked with First Choice/Thomson and booked a couple of trips (Fort Jesus by night and Swahili Blue) with them as JT didn't run the ones we wanted. I have to say that although we had a good time on both we felt that they were not good value for the amount we paid. I will be contacting Thomsons re this.
As for the 'ladies of the night' we were aware that there was a number of ageing men with very young Kenyan women - they kept to themselves and were not a problem for us. I can see however that it will be a problem for some guests.
