“A good ship anchored at the Nyali beach”

The good ship Voyager is mored in beautiful settings north of Mombasa. It has all the facilities you need, and a very able crew. However it is one of these places which could be at a beach anywhere in the warmer parts of the world - you don`t have a feel of beeing in Africa. For some rest and relax it is a fine place, but as a base for "African adventures" a bit far away from everything

This time, however, we came for rest and relax, and find Voyager a suitable place for just that!
Our room was facing the fun pool and also had views to the sea. We had feared it could be a bit noisy there with many activities in the pool, but it was not bothersome . Gardens are well maintained and generally nice

Food was good, and plentiful. Sometimes a bit of queues at the various food stations during the busiest times, and drink service not very attentive. Great selection for vegetarians. If you like more quiet meals, go for the Italian restaurant - you have to book this in advance. Candlelight dining, and good food. However Italians - and other true pizza lovers - should stay away from the socalled pizzas.

As pointed out in other reviews the staff is very friendly and helpful. They deal seriously with feedback connnected on feedback forms

We noticed a lot of acitivites, from bingo to swahili courses to pool basket. However ourselves we only tried the all inclusive watersports - catamaran sailing was good fun. The glass bottom boat trip runs daily, but goes to the same two spots every day, coral gardens and star fish garden. You pay the marine park fee in cash (15 USD) Very nice and knowledgeable crew onboard

3 pools - the funpool with activites, the sports pool and the relax pool where no kids, music etc was allowed. We had heard that the beach itself would not be a nice place to bee because of all the sellers. Yes, they were there, but we did not find them as annoyong as expected. Lukewarm water 24 h, but a lot of seaweed in the water, and very shallow at low tide

Few bars around, our favourite was the Lookout with beach and sea views. Also drink service at the pool areas. Could have wished for colder wine, and more diet friendly drink options

Room Tip: Avoid rooms those rooms facing the garden which is close to the reception restaurant area. Less priv...

Before and after a Safari with all the early mornings and those "Lovely and interesting"Kenyan Roads with that little sprinkling of Trucking traffic". Stop.sit. waste minutes to hour thinking of where to eat and what to eat all the time sipping something cold and thirst quenching.
Yes there are activities, the Beach a great selection of pools in pleasant grounds that do not feel too overcrowded even when full. Oh should you want a towel after 16.00 hours to catch some quick rays before the evening then get your towels early in the day, enough said.
Like your seafood? the Cove is work the extra and like the Italian Booking is advised and can be necessary

Room Tip: Do not be there High Season or School holiday time as you get what they got and are glad of it

My colleagues and I stayed there for 1 week in February 2012. It was quite good. Well, we had a beachfront room, and every morning, I could hear the waves when I wake up.
I would not say that it is a classy, luxurious hotel where I would feel comfortable, but it is just ok. Compared to Nyali Beach in Mombasa, it is much better.
The water in the hotel was salty, but we had the same problem with other hotels in Mombasa.
The food is good. I really enjoyed the wide selection of fresh fruits at breakfast and dinner time. :)
The room is quite basic; not cosy and comfortable, but just enough to have a good rest.
The entertainment at dinner time is good, with different shows every day.

Everything about the hotell was great. The staff were happy, smiling and helpful. Special mention must be made of Elizabeth in reception and Margaret the drinks waitress. Food was varied with a different theme every night and lots of items cooked fresh to order. The italian restaurant by the pool made a pleasant change as well.

We stayed at the voyager in feb 2012 for two weeks and have mixed feelings about our stay there. We have experienced three previous all inclusive hotels in the past two years, two in Mexico and one in Rhodes and the overall standard was in all cases better than the voyager. I suppose some people would say that this is Africa after all but there is no reason why they can't match the best elsewhere. The room we had was fine albeit basic, we suggest a superior, ours had double double beds and a garden view, it had a fridge but this was warmer than the room and was not stocked anyway so we didn't bother sorting it out! At our previous ai hotels the fridges were stocked with soft drinks and beer. The a some inclusive cocktails but they don't make these with a crushed ice blender just tip the local alcohol in a glass and add a straw. After my wife had her first green piña colada she didn't bother again. The staff are generally very friendly but the bar staff were very slow and some of them were basically grumpy -voyager you need to sort these people out, they let down the rest. Drink service at dinner was sometimes sporadic, you rarely get asked if you want a refill for example and sometimes have to flag down the staff. The food was pretty repetitive and I felt they had too many stations in the restaurant whee queues formed - my pet gripe was chips being cooked in front of you, about 4 portions at a time for a 200 seat restaurant -why? They're just chips...
There is an Italian restaurant which you can book as many times as you like but the menu is a bit limited, and a separate fish restaurant with a 50% discount for ai guests.

I did have an issue with having to pay for the room safe as we never have had to do this before and this is essentially just a room tax as you need the safe. Especially frustrating as other guests said they didn't pay as the safe was open when they arrived.

Internet is also expensive at 200 shillings per half hour - again everywhere else we have been has had a free Internet area in the hotel. One guest did tell us that they bought one voucher and continued to use the internet for the remainder of the stay.

So, overall, the hotel is clean, rooms functional (did I mention very firm beds?) grounds well kept, pools clean, beach nice, activities staff great fun, most staff friendly but the hotel loses points on the catering, bar service and the fact that all inclusive is fairly limited. Hope this helps.

Room Tip: The entertainment is by the restaurant and goes on to 11pm, if you want a quiet room it will be clos...

I stayed in the Voyager in sept 2010 but feel the need to now write this review as I've just came back from Cuba and all I did for the first few days was compare it to the Voyager until my partner told me to stop haha. So here's what I thought....

Airport: We paid extra to fly premium class (about £200 pp) which meant we got off the plane first which then meant we were first in line for our visa's so this went so smoothly and hassle free. We arrived at the hotel to be greeted with warm flannels and a drink to cool down with while our room was sorted out. This took about 15 minutes so again I was really happy that there was no waiting around.

Hotel: First impressions were "wow" I loved the look of the place especially as the drive from the airport is an eye opener to how lucky and privileged we are in comparison to the people of Mombasa. We were shown to our room and I've never been so happy, We were put in a room that overlooked the main pool which also had a amazing sea view. Im sure this type of room is normally charged at an extra cost. The grounds of the hotel were always kept so clean and tidy. Everything was just so perfect.

Food: I am such a fussy eater you have no idea, But I really enjoyed the food. My favourite was breakfast, They made pancakes fresh in front of you with all kinds of syrups, there was toast and jams, bacon with eggs cooked every way you can think of along with pastry's and cereals, To be honest I could go on and on there was that much choice. Lunch and Dinner where also really tasty with lots of choice.

Beach: Lovely beach sometimes lots of seaweed, Some days not too bad and you do see the hotel staff trying to get rid of it. But overall a great beach. The beach boys aren't too bad either. When we first stepped foot on the beach someone would approach you but if you tell them your not interested in buying anything they leave you alone. I didn't find it much of a problem.

Rooms: I was really happy with our room, It had lots of space and was clean also had a tv with some really good late night films.

Staff: Very friendly and always there to help with anything. We tipped quite a lot to be honest but they don't really expect you to give them anything. But they don't get paid much so anything you give is appreciated.

This hotel and holiday are going to take something special to beat them, I haven't been on a holiday since that I loved as much as Kenya and The voyager. I will definitely be returning.

We went on a 2 night 3 day safari to tsavo east and west which we booked through a local company in Mombasa called JT Safari's. Before we went I emailed him to arrange the safari and transferred a deposit of 200usd. At the time I did feel a bit nervous sending money to a guy who I'd only spoke to via email but everything was great. If you do want to go on safari please give this guy a chance, He is very professional and is cheaper than the tour operators . His web address is..... http://www.julius-safaris.com/index2.cgi?lang=UK&page=1&name=Home

He also has a fab rating on trip advisor - http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Review-g317068-d318009-Reviews-Julius_Safaris_Day_Trips-Ukunda.html

Having stayed in the Voyager three times and booked again already for next year we now regards the hotel as our home from home. Who would have thought we would be saying this three years ago, when we prided ourselves on staying in a different hotel every year. We had already fallen in love with Kenya with its wonderfully open and friendly people, the beautiful beaches and the stunning Masai Mara but in the Voyager we found something very special. For us the Voyager ticks all the boxes. The setting is beautiful, the grounds are immaculate and spacious, the superior rooms are modern and roomy and the food is good and varied. However, what puts the Voyager on its own for us are the people who work in the hotel. They are a knock out and we are privileged to now consider many of them as friends. It would be unfair to mention names as we have found everyone in the Voyager to be helpful, friendly, relaxed and they all have splendid senses of humour. We split our holiday in the middle with a three day safari to the Masai Mara with Julius Nzumbi of JT Safaris ( jtsafaris@yahoo.com) We took our third safari with JT this year and have booked again for next year. His prices and level of service and attention to detail are very considerably better than the tour companies and again Julius is an absolute gentleman..After a fabulous safari with JT this year where we saw all the big 5, we came back to our "home from home" to spend the final week lazing by the infinity pool overlooking the beach..".purfick"!!!
