Bamburi Beach Hotel
Ranked #12 of 60 Hotels in Mombasa

Having just returned from the Bamburi I want other people to know what a terrible hotel this is. On arrival we found that our room was in need of a refurb. The bed sheets and particularly the pillowcases were an awful dirty colour and the bed was covered in old itchy blankets. We found hair on the bedroom floor. The shower taps would not turn and therefore I scalded myself on the 1st night because I could not turn the cold water tap! The TV was not working. Air conditioning was not working. The lock on the bedroom door would not lock and therefore was not secure at night. Our first night in the restaurant was a disaster, we went in at 8pm only to find there was hardly any food left - this happened most evenings, it was a case of 1st come 1st served. We mostly ate outside the hotel. If you wanted a sunbed you have to be prepared to get up at 6am. if not you could not get one, those that were available needed replacing, they were old and broken and in some cases dangerous ie nails sticking out, rusty and splintered. Hotel grounds were generally run down and unkept. The worst thing of all were the prostitutes who frequented the hotel, some with their children. This was known to the management but they seem to turn a blind eye. I definitely would not recommend this hotel particularly to those taking children. Most of the staff were sour faced and unfriendly particularly the chefs in the dining room. Look out for Benjamin in the Karibu restaurant - he did absolutely nothing except stand around, he didnt meet or greet or even smile. You will be expected to fill in the usual comment forms when eating at this restaurant, bear in mind that he will stand and read the report and there is no guarantee that the comment sheet will be put in the box to be sent back to the management. I did make a list of complaints whilst in the hotel which I took to the reception but this was met with a "couldnt care less attitude". We holiday at least twice a year long haul and I can honestly say this is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. It is dirty and the staff are lazy due to lack of training and poor management!

Room Tip: Go to a different hotel!

Great value for money that is if you choose to focus on enjoying yourself and having a relaxing time-which is what vacation should be- other than looking at what other guests are doing.
Loved the view and generally its location which made it easier for us to access several other hotspots. Its also not soo far away from mombasa town...twenty five minutes is enough if theres no traffic jam. Although it was not our first choice we would definately go back there..We enjoyed our stay.

just got back from here and we had a fantastic time.it was our honeymoon and we were treated very well by all the staff at the hotel.our room was clean and large and comfortable, always cleaned to a decent standard.the hotel restaurants serve good food with plenty of choice and you have to try the naan bread cooked while you wait, its the best.service in the bars is always delivered with a smile and efficent. the pool is beautiful and the towel team always willing to help you find a bed if your a bit late to rise. the animation team are a credit to this hotel, trying to involve everyone in the games that they organise everyday.Anderson,Bonny, salim, amina, barbara, sylvia to name but a few, they really are wonderful people.i would return to this hotel tomorrow if i could. some other guests may not agree but its a 3star hotel with 5star staff

The hotel used to be great, but having returned in October this year, its now a resort used by singles who ship in local escorts and prostitutes, about 50% of the guests are couples ade up of dubious partners, women with toyboys from the local area or men being sugar daddies, The women seemed to be the more blatant and were fondling their toy boys in full view, at the least the men and their partners were discreet in their activities, there were one or two men using the beach prostitues and bringing them into the hotel, which was not allowed but with the right arrangements with the security staff they looked the other wayy.the hotel management seem to be doing very little about the problem, perhaps its of financial benefit. Its a great place for people watching, we witnessed to elderly ladies one with obvious hip problems pick up two rastafarian toyboys on the beach and disappear into an adjoining hotel that rents rooms by the hour...
The hotel itself is still good, although some of the decor is looking tired, most of the staff are very good, although it seems that the sun bed staff have their favourites and their own scams going to get tips, they were reserving sunbeds for people, these beds would then go unused for the whole day in prime positions. The rooms are comfortable, the food is very good not a day where I couldnt eat, and Im a fussy eater...Generally still a reasonable hotel, but I would not recommend it as it is, especially if you are taking children...

Room Tip: rooms at the front by the beach.

This hotel is a nice place to be, with a great and excellent team of workers, and management. It has a nice view of the ocean, and a walk able distance to the beach. The food is nice, the swimming pool is clean, and Earnest the room steward is a jolly and warm person. Oh yeah, not forgetting Virginia, Lawrence and Betty!!! I enjoyed my stay.Thank you Bamburi beach hotel team.

Looks like a nice hotel from the front, rooms are very basic and dirty, the sheets on the bed are grim, our fridge, Aircon and shower was broken, we had money stollen from the safe, when we confronted the management they then fell out with us and turned the aircon off to the room!!!. Food was ok cant complain there. Staff nagged you for money all the time. You had to be by the pool for about 5am to get a sunbed germans get up very early and reserve them all. We was amazed by the amount of prostitutes and even witnesed a old german man asking for a child which he got a girl about 15 Most of the prostitues that worked in the hotel had children with them not very nice when they also go up to the rooms with them. Women lined the men up and choose the one they wanted to take up to there room. Once you get used to the 100 beach boys that first approach you on the beach and tell them no for the first 2 days you can then have a good laugh with them and some are really nice guys.

Room Tip: Check to make sure everything works

This hotel was booked as a last minute booking, when we arrived the hotel staff were great, but our first room was not. The manager them moved us to another room and it was excellent. The food was good and the staff looked after you.
