We stayed here in 2009 and knew we had to return. This time we arrived after staying for 3 nights at Porini's other Mara camp - Mara Porini. As we approached the camp it felt like we were coming home, smiles welcomed us as we had aquick drink and off to our fantastic tents for a quick freshen up before a game drive with Meshak who we had requested specifically.

The tents are wonderful, very big, with all mod cons. Those who say they did not like having to ask for showers should perhaps look at what they are booking before they book and anyway, a 5 minute wait at the most is all it takes for a long hot shower in the middle of nowhere!!!

We always get up early, 5.30, and go out all day including bush breakfast and lunches. Even if we saw no life at all just this would be worth the money but life we saw as all did and will in future.

Early morning the cats are up and about and we saw lion hunts, cheetah hunts and kills and all with virtually no other vehicles around.

I could go on forever as to how good this is but simply put:
If you want aswimming pool and sunlounger go somewhere else.
If you want lots of white vans (Virus Vans as we call them) stay in the main Mara especially on the east side.
If you want peace and quiet and wildelife ina supoerb conservancy that benefits the locals and not ahuge multinational company then STAY AT PORINI camps especially the Lion Camp

We quite literally enjoyed lions (adults an cubs), cheetah, and leopard going about their daily business of sleeping, romping, stalking, eating, and carnal pleasures. Intimate to say the least! Three of us stayed a delightful two nights at Porini Lion, our first experience in the Mara region, and found we booked the perfect camp. I would be hard pressed to find another with as comfortable accommodation-both beds and game drive vehicles, as plentiful tasty nibbles, and as graciously attentive staff-Ben, Steven, and Joseph are fabulous. Perhaps the favorite piece of our stay was staying up late to enjoy nearby lion, hippo, and elephant sounds, and then waking up to drive through the beautifully private conservancy to track the animals the next morning-so good to put a face to a voice. We even enjoyed a new friend's birthday-complete with cake and candles, song and dance surprise. If you happen to want to do the adventure drive from Nairobi to the conservancy yourself, Jake was kind enough to have some guides meet us on the road so we wouldn't become lost. So entirely thoughtful and personalized Porini Lion camp-well done! We will return with many friends, as I could not recommend this terrific camp enough.

Room Tip: Best room? They are all good-just stay here!

As part of a two week safari adventure across Africa this was our second stop & time under canvas in the African bush. It was both a fantastic & memorable experience. Thank you to Philip (manager), Big John & Wiliam (guides) & all the Maasi staff & people of the camp for their gracious welcome & care throughout our 5 day stay. Many thanks to Elijah the chef for the birthday cake & wonderful food. The days started early with prompt & reliable wake up calls, the daily activities varied & interesting. Dinner in the bush, walking safari & a trip to the Mara River crossings to observe the migration & balloon trip over the Mara all made this birthday trip special. The knowledge of our guides was impressive & they were happy to answer all questions & keen to teach us. Thank you to Gamewatchers Safaris for the organisation, impeccable timing & the knowledge we were in safe & caring hands. Altogether faultless.

Room Tip: All rooms are comfortably furnished & equpped, with different outlooks across the bush.

In the brief trip from the air strip to the conservancy we saw 4 of the big 5 in 20 minutes which tells you how good this place is for game! [We spotted the rhino the next day]. Dedicated staff ensured our stay here was comfortable and action packed when you wanted it to be.

Mushak, our driver/spotter was brilliant. He couldn't do enough for us and his love of the wildlife was self evident in his enthusiasm. The perfect guide; he was informative but never intrusive. We went out once with Joseph and William too and they were both lovely, nice blokes.

We were lucky and caught the migration, the Mara was teeming with wildlife; thousands of wildebeest, zebra, gazelles. Plenty of elephants, hippos, big cats - you name it, it was there. We saw the lot. The conservancy was better though as you could view the animals in privacy making the whole thing more intimate. The sundowners and evening meals were a good opportunity to share the days adventures with fellow punters and we had a blast.

Great guides and a fantastic setting. Be prepared for nights full of the sounds of elephants, hippo and lions.

The quality of the safari guiding was fantastic. The accomodation and service was excellent. The team at Porini Rhino are friendly and really want all the guests to enjoy themselves.

Would happily recommend it to others.

Was a while ao and not very fresh in the memory. This however leaves only the memorable bits both good and bad.

Good: -
- Very friendly
- Good knowledge of terrain
- Excellent sightings incl Serval cat, White tailed mongoose and lots of Lion
- Loved the evening outings and getting out of the vehicles
- Bush babies on the tent at night (lots of figting thouh)

Disliked:-
- They assume you want to interact with the other guests
- Eating with other guests at same table
- Room was okay but poor relative to Little Governors etc
- Worst point was having to ask staff to fill your shower with hot water

Room Tip: all equally good

What an amazing trip!. The conservacy and concept of the porini lion camp made it one of the best holidays i had. the Masai proudly shared and showed us aound the conservacy and natoinal park. The landscape at sunrise where herds of elephants and wilderbeests wonder towards the watering holes was just breath-taking, Our guide was so excited and took us to see a leopard on a tree, a lone black rhino taking a cooling mud bath and even a lioness with a litter of cubs who were about 3 weeks old. In fact the entire Porini camp experience is a must on everyone's wish list. Tents are extremely comofortable and meals was superb especially the soups.

Room Tip: All the tents are luxurious and comfortable. very well equiped. Bring a torch along.
