Went for our second time at the crossing. This time we felt in the middle of maybe a million wildebeest, zebras, antelopes etc. climate change seems to have confused them as they normally cross The Mara from Tanzania to Kenya for greener pastures. Now both seem dry or wet and so the nimals cross the Mara and then cross back. This makes for great viewing for those who want to see the crocs do their magic. With or without crossings it is a magnificent experience.

We spent several hours each on two days trying to find gnus crossing the river. We did see 3 groups come to Waters edge, but not go in. We also saw crocs and hippos.

We had been to Masai Mara national reserve almost 15 years ago but not seen so many animals as this time. This time we went during the great migration of wildebeest and it was an incredible experience. We saw all big fives in the first game drive itself. One day we saw almost 100,000 wildebeest gathering to cross the river but they did not cross due to presence of crocodiles and hippos in the river. At one spot there were a lot of vehicles and were not bothered to respect the animals in their own territory! Otherwise, in most places it was not crowded and our driver cum guide from Little Governor’s camp, Mr Mosses was superb. We had tremendous sightings of cheetahs and leopards and every other animal possible and innumerable birds..We saw the river from our balloon too and wildebeest migration from the aeroplane while landing, from the ground and from the balloon. The river itself is very tortuous and is full of crocodiles and hippos. One must visit this place for at least two days while in Kenya and if possible doing the migration period.

We saw the Masai pride of lions and lioness sleeping in the afternoon in the river bed just before sunset . Rain fell lightly and there was a gentle trickle of water for the animals to come down to the river bank
