“Luxury with a smile”

Kicheche camps are not cheap (necessarily because of the limit on numbers in the Conservancy) but the standard of comfort, food, service and skilled guiding are of the very highest level.
Our tent was very luxurious and we were pampered by our tent steward, food was very good and sufficient and charmingly served; guiding was extremely good and very attentive.
Safari drives were available whenever it suited us and we seldom encountered other vehicles; we were lucky enough to see a leopard in our final drive

I should start this review by stating that Kicheche Bush Camp is not another "luxury" game resort complete with crystal chandeliers, gourmet meals and the finest wines - it is much better than that.
It consists of 6 very high quality tents with extremely comfortable beds and all the amenities you could need and is located in the Olare Orok Conservancy. It is superbly managed by Darren and Emma together with excellent camp staff and guides. Service is first rate and all possible needs are catered for from pre-dawn cup of tea served in one's tent, to bedtime.
Lunch and dinner is served in the large main tent and is of excellent quality and served with very acceptable wines.
The game drives are the best I have ever experienced, largely down to our excellent guide, Mika. Each 4 x 4 takes a maximum of 4 passengers and the morning drive starts at 6.00am or perhaps later should you choose. Breakfast is served somewhere in the bush and the guides are incredibly skilled at always being in the right place to see the game at its best. The morning drive usually finishes at 12 or 12.30pm in time for a refreshing drink followed by a most appetising lunch.
One can then rest until 4.00pm and then it is time for the second game drive during which there is time for a stop for sundowners and then a return to camp by 7.30pm. Time then to shower-off prior to meeting for pre-dinner drinks followed by a much needed dinner.
I have been to six other game camps over a number of years, an Kicheche is undoubtably the best experience so far. We will certainly go back.

In January, we stayed at this camp with a World Vision group. It was an outstanding experience. The staff was terrific and the drivers were tenacious in getting us up close to the magnificent wild life. It was everything that we could have hoped for and we hope to return someday. We would love to share this experience with our friends and family!

We stayed at Kicheche Bush Camp in December 2012, our first time in the Mara. While we have been on other safaris before, Kicheche Bush camp is a whole different league. Darren and Emma are wonderful hosts who could probably let any guest feel at home. They, and all their staff, go the extra mile for you. The tents are wonderful, luxurious (for a safari) and private with a great view of wildlife just at your doorstep. You have hot showers, freshly brewed coffee, tea and chocolate milk in the morning, how we missed James when we got home....

The amount of wildlife, especially cats, in the area is amazing, and although we were there during the busy Christmas season, we only saw a few other safari vehicles. Our guide, James, was very knowledgable but also had the patience to deal with our energetic 8 year old son. And it was great to have the jeep to ourselves as a family.

Lunch and dinner were always outstanding, the setting of lunch at a big table under the shade of a large tree is gorgeous. The other guests during our stay (all Norwegians by coincidence) were very pleasant company and Darren and Emma made sure that everybody felt at home.

When Darren and Emma heard that we would go on to Diani Beach, they wrote a whole A4 with recommendations, which were all superb! Thank you for the wonderful time!

In February we visited Kicheche Bush Camp which has just 6 large spacious tents each with a private verandah looking out into the bush in a wonderful setting in the Olare Motorogi Conservancy which is just minutes away from the Masai Mara Reserve so you can experience the best of both worlds. Darren and Emma are excellent camp hosts creating a warm and friendly atmosphere in an extremely well run camp. Nothing is too much trouble for them even down to driving out into the bush to deliver a camera battery which I'd left behind! Each day Peter delivered our early morning coffee and hot water for washing in a happy and cheerful manner and looked after us very well in our tent and the rest of the team in the camp were absolutely fantastic. Each day the food, which would have done an ambitious restaurant in London proud was wonderful from the picnic breakfast to dinner. To achieve this in the bush is extraordinary. Last but definitely not least was Charles our guide who was so knowledgable and experienced and was able to deliver our tall order of animals which we wished to view along with some surprises. Thanks to everyone for 4 fantastic days and we look forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: All the tents are very private with fabulous views into the bush

This was my second visit to Kicheche Bush Camp, and for a variety of reasons it was far better than the first. First of all,I arrived with all my baggage because Kenyan Airways was given the chance to misplace it,second of all it didn't rain during my five day stay in August.
The staff was again superb in every way, shape, and form. There are no two waiters who could be polite or charming than Kennedy, and Vincent. My guide Patrick's knowledge and understanding of the environment was simply incredible. Patrick is also an unusually sensitive gentleman. We took a fascinating walking safari with one morning. Darren tried as much as possible to give my friend and myself our own vehicle.Emma as always was very kind.
Despite all my previous safaris,I simply couldn't believe the things I saw. I saw two young but mature lions kill an adolescent wildebeest,a female leopard climbing a tree with dead impala followed by it's cub, many mongoose fleeing from the holes, female cheetah with their adorable cubs, and so much else. The balloon flight was a once-in-a lifetime experience which shouldn;t be missed. I witnessed a crossing,as well as I was driven through a stampede of wildebeet.
The food was again superb, and I could find nothing to complain about. I loved sleeping at night listening to the lions, hyena, and wildebeest in the distance. The tents were very comfortable, and I loved the bucket showers. The beds were also perfect.
Again,I can't emphasize enough the importance of the fact that Kichche Bush Camp is located in a private concession. Thus there is no problem of overcrowding. You can drive for hours and see very few other vehicles.

Thanks to all at Kicheche Bush Camp for a wonderful time. Emma and Darren for your warm hospitality, James for his excellent guiding. The standard of food produced in the middle of the bush is amazing. Thoroughly recommended, and to round off our trip we flew back to Diani on MAS's DC3. Many thanks to everybody for all the great memories.
