If your safari priorities are viewing quality game, having a knowledgable local guide, a 4x4 that can tackle any terraine which is essential for seeing game and a luxury experience under canvas then booking the Fairmont Mara.

The 'tents' are all proper tents that allow you to hear the sounds of the animals at night whilst lying on comfortable Fairmont bed, each one has a proper shower and toilet and some even have a private outdoor shower for a truly natural experience.

Our tent had a private verandah that had amazing views of the crocodile and hippo infested River Mara below and was a short stroll to the main lodge where a delicous meal was served three times a day.

The highlight was undoubtable the safari drives that happen twice a day, our driver was Samuel who was a minefield of animal knowledge and went out of his way to try and make I saw the 'Big 5.

Luxury and quality dont come cheap but a safari is a once in a life time experience so dont compromise otherwise your dreams will be eaten by the lions.

This was the best experience that we have ever had in our lives as it was our first time in Masai Mara. We have been in Kenya but only visited Amboseli and Mombasa. Of all the places that we have visted fairmont is at the top because the service is excellent. First we were recieved warmly at the airstrip by a lady and we were given towels and juice "I think thats first class treatment." Then we had an excellent waiter Luxon who served us with very good food especially the steaks. Our rooms were the best with a good view of the Mara river an to top it off we had the best safaris with the best two guides who made us view the animal kingdom differently and Anthony went the extra mile to spot all the big 5 for us making us so thrilled beyond our expectations. Thank you fairmont and everyone that made our stay worthwhile.

What a unique and majestic setting at the Mara Safari Club. We often dream of staying at a resort like this and my experience lived up to my dreams. Going on a safari trip is a real adventure and getting to this hotel on a tiny plane, landing on a private strip in the middle of the Masai Mara is part of the fun. You are greeted and taken to the resort by Jeep and you are welcomed at the hotel and introduced to the staff and property. You sleep in deluxe tents with all amenities that are perched above a bend in the Mara River where hippos live. Looking outside your tent is action enough and I never got tired of observing the Mother and baby hippo right in front of our tent. Of course, you have to put up with the noise of monkeys, hippos, goat bells ringing, birds but that's free entertainment. The daily safaris are amazing and you see animals right as you leave the hotel in your Jeep. My favorite safari was the one on foot with a Masai - you walk right by the animals and feel like a native. Just plain amazing. The hotel has all services, nice meals, internet, pool, entertainment. The staff are all genuinely nice and helpful. our room attendant William was very attentive and took good care of us, bringing us our morning tea before we left for safari. A memorable trip that I hope to do again!

Our Mara journey started on a Saturday, we took KQ to Nairobi n from there to Wilson airport on a 10 seater fly 540 aircraft which can get quite bumpy but better to fly than drive to Mara. We were greeted by Ken who recieved us and through out made sure our stay was comfortable.
I can't comment enough on how kind n hospitable the staff of Fairmont are.. Rashid who made sure we got Halal food, Wilson our ranger made sure we got to see all the animals and tried his best to show the big 5 n we were truly satisfied when he drove miles n miles to come to the most beautiful cheetahs enjoying their recent hunt, a gazelle. That was the hi lite of our trip. Nancy who played with my kids n showed them around the hotel and 'hippo corner' was truly a pleasure. All the staff r always smiling, food is amazing and tents r very comfortable. The staff never say no to anything and make sure they give one to one attention.
The game drives are long n bumpy but worth it. We saw a family of lions whose recent prey was a zebra.
Everything about our stay at fairmont Mara safari was truly positive and I would strongly recommend anyone planning to stay at this hotel, not to think twice.
A truly memorable expereince!!

We made our second trip to Kenya and was lucky enough to be able to say at the Mara Safari Lodge again. It was just as beautiful this time and the tents were much bigger. We first stayed there in 2001 and when we returned this trip we met some of the people who were there back then. We rode with Bill on a great balloon trip. Sanke our driver and guide found all the animals we wanted to see. Including baby lions and giraffes. We saw all the big 5 and even got up close with the rhinos.
Our waiter John met every whim or need we had and even gave us a private supper our last night at the hippo hide. All the food was very very good. Rashid and Mathew made great drinks for us every evening. The manager came by everyones table and made sure we all were having a great time. Ruth,Mary and Anicia were all very helpful, too.
You will feel right at home the minute the plane touches down. Sanke and Mary were there to welcome us and we felt like we were home. The Mara does such a great job that you never ever want to leave.

Room Tip: Tent 38 - 2 double beds - great views

Me and my husband stayed for two nights and we had just flown from Malindi since my husband is working there for the moment but as for me I had earlier come from Italy. The overall service was excellent but I have to say the camp really impressed me by offering us two guides Anthony and Jeremiah. I have to say Anthony who I think was training stood out the most because he made us feel at home as he guided us with Italian and explained everything to detail doing an excellent job. We are surely coming back and we will for sure want Anthony to be our guide again. GRAZIE ANTHONY E FAIRMONT!! CIAO!

The top of my "Bucket List" was a safari in Africa, however my husband was not too keen on the idea - he likes his comforts - but he did give me 5 nights at the Fairmont for Christmas this year. Not only did it satisfy me (for now) but it converted him to the safari experience.

The Fairmont specializes on service - each of the "tents" had a houseman, each guest is assigned a server in the restaurnat for their stay and you are assigned a guide for your stay. Therefore the staff learns your likes and dislikes, and takes care of you to the inth degree.

Our safari guide Caesar was the best! He was a our own personal "Jack Hanna" for the duration of the trip - he knew everything about the animals, where to find them, best angles to photograph them, and regailed them in stories on how they live, eat and hunt...we found animals where no one else went and always seemed to be the last in at night...we were the first ones in camp to find the elusive lepard to complet our big five scorecard...shear heaven...

John our server always looked after our best interests when it came to our dietsry needs. He called if we missed a meal, sent sandwiches in the afternoon, delivered coffee and cookies before our morning game rides, made sure we had one of the best tables for all the meals, and gave us extra goodies - well just because...The food at the Fairmont was delicious - based on occupancy either buffets or a la carte. Meals are based on local traditions - fruits and vegtables in season with a gormet twist. They have a decent wine cellar - however we became enamored with the Kenyon Tusker Beer.

The rooms are tents - however they have wood floors, marble sinks, canopy beds and a balcony overlooking the Mara river and the resident hippos and crocs. We were in the deluxe units with an outdoor shower almost as large as the tent itself - my husband was in heaven...in the evening when they do turndown service they bring hot water bottles to keep you warm at night. We kept our flap closed to keep a check on bugs (hubbys big fear) and had nary a skeeter...the furnishing are simple and elegant and the grounds are beautifully maintained.

For our first foray into the safari world - we are hooked - thank you Fairmont for showing us that grace and elegance still exists in Africa!
