We went to Basecamp in early July and had a fantastic time. We were picked up at the 'airport' by our guide, Kim. Although quiet natured, Kim was an excellent guide answering our questions and he had a great sense of humor. A Maasai, Kim also answered cultural questions, which was really interesting. Throughout the three day safari, he was able to find all the animals we were interesting seeing, including two kills! We definitely felt that we had a talented guide. In 1 full day and two half days, we went on 4 drives. We felt that we got our moneys worth by far.

The accommodations were also really nice. The tents are covered by thatched roofs, and each one overlooks a pond. For tents, we felt that we were living in luxury. The rooms were comfortable and romantic. You shower outside facing the pond, but don't worry no one but the crocodiles or monkeys would see you! It was so refreshing to shower outside! Be sure you are patient with the water, it is heated by solar panels and takes sometime to get the warm water to the shower--- but do not worry it happens! The tents circle a main area where food is served, which is a hot buffet and yummy. After dinner we watched a traditional Maasai dance and listened to some songs.

As advertised, the camp is an eco-friendly lodge. They are able to master this through solar electricity and relying on nature. If you are going to the Mara and expect to stay in luxurious hotels, this is not the place for you. However, if you are nervous it is too roughing it, it is not. This was nicer then many American hotels. It proves that eco-friendly can be comfortable.

We really loved Basecamp.. We are even looking to staying at their other lodges across the world.
