room great, just a bit far away from the dining room and general area. ask for for closer room to the main area, especially if travelling with a older persons as the paths a bit rough, always some around to help you with early morning and late evening. Always ask for Stanley for your person to help in the dining area. Great person.

Room tip: ask for something close to the pool area and dining area

It’s good to support BaseCamp company because it’s a community conservancy so the jobs and money benefits the local community. They are doing great work.

Go to BaseCamp for the wildlife on the Mara savannah, and then go to Eagle view camp or Wilderness camp for a more intimate experience.

BaseCamp: Advantage of this camp is it is literally adjacent to the Mara preserve which has amazingly abundant wildlife. This camp was good, but less personal than the other camps this organization runs, Eagle view camp and Wilderness camp, on Conservancy property.

Caution on walking safari package: overall, I had a great experience with this organization. However my main frustration is the marketing materials they sell in advance are a little misleading in what they promise. When I arrived, it was clear my guide on the ground had no idea what itinerary I had been promised. I purchased a package with two walking safaris planned, but it’s apparent that these are not guaranteed to happen because of weather and season (October was way too hot to go out all day). In the end my guide John helped arrange two different walks, one for about an hour and one for two hours, which turned out to be really fun but it was unclear if they were going to happen and definitely not what the marketing materials described.

You just have to advocate for what you would like and know that the guides haven’t heard what program or itinerary you were sold. Essentially you are only planning in advance the stays at different camps, and it’s only once you are on the ground with your guide can you figure out what is possible for that day. It’s pretty spontaneous. In the end, I had a good experience but it played out differently then anticipated.

“Camp tour” problem - on my program, one morning there was a scheduled “camp tour“ to learn a little bit about the organization and its benefits to the community. It was frustrating to stay in the camp all morning because this tour only takes about an hour. It’s great to learn about what the organization is doing but doesn’t need a full morning. Ask to do this tour after a morning game drive.

This organization runs additional camps in what they call the “Conservancy“ and these camps are much more intimate and I enjoyed them much more than Basecamp. Wilderness Camp and Eagle View are more in the hills above the savannah but we saw great wildlife every day. (Lions every day, cheetah, elephants, hippos, crocodiles and much more.)

My family visited the Masai Mara area & we were amazed at how many animals we saw. The tribes' people are the guides, cooks, drivers.............they keep the camps running smoothly & the safari's exciting.

The Maasi tribes' people are soft spoken, kind and very friendly. They really want you to have a good experience & a good impression of their country.

We toured the local tribal village & the local school. What a great introduction to the people & their lifestyle. Also, it was a real eye-opener!!

The accommodations were very good. i was a little afraid of what it would be like to stay in a tent, but this 'tent' was not what we expected. It was flush toilets, running water......the luxuries of home, but more rustic.

The food was always fresh & delicious, with choices, depending on your culinary preferences.

You are living among the animals, so you see & hear everything. We were surprised that we had no problems with mosquitoes or any other insects the entire time we were there.

If I had to decided among all the options for a safari in Africa, I would have been frozen by indecision because of all the options available. Friends recommended this camp & it was perfect. I highly recommend this company, Basecamp Explorer, to anyone who wants a glamping, tent, roughing-it experience.

We spent 6 days with Basecamp at two of their lodges — Masai Mara and Leopard Hill. Every aspect exceeded our expectations! Our guide Manfred was so knowledgeable, entertaining and intuitive. He knew exactly where to find the lions, leopards and cheetahs, not to mention the sunsets. The animal viewing was outstanding!

The lodges themselves were well appointed, and Leopard Hill, Basecamp’s newest property, was especially lovely. It combined remote wildlife viewing with all the modern luxuries we could ask for. Fiona, the massage therapist was adorable! We appreciate the eco-values of Basecamp, and we love what they’re doing to involve and empower the Maasai people and women in particular.

This was our second time on safari in Africa, and Basecamp and the Masai Mara did not disappoint!

My fiance and I stayed at Basecamp Maasai Mara for 2 nights and their sister property, Eagle View in Naibosho Coservancy, for 1 night. Right from being picked up at the airstrip in the Mara to drop off, we had an excellent stay. We had the "Obama tent" at Basecamp that overlooks the river and has a lovely deck with a swing and sitting area. Our meals were great and they paid attention to the presentation of the food. We are vegetarians and there was always a veggie option on the day's menu. Manfred was our Maasai guide and driver for all our game drives and he took great care of us. I picked this property to stay at because they are eco-friendly and are truly investing in conservation as well as in the local community. Definitely recommend.
