“DO NOT BELIEVE THE BAD REVIEWS. I WAS THERE”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 5, 2011

I was in keekorok in February and have had a wonderful time. We flew in from Mombasa which was already an experience in this small airplane that hops around the Masai Mara to different airfields dropping passengers to their camps. We were picked up at the keekorok airfield with a safari jeep like car and driven to the lodge. They staff were there to welcome us and we were really surprised to be in the bush at a fantastic hotel. Everything was just perfect during our stay. Wonderful staff and compliments to the “Chef”. We had read good reviews before we booked for Keekorok but am surprised at some of the reviews which do not do justice. It is a very well managed lodge and you will not be disappointed.

We stayed at the Lodge and had one of the most wonderful holiday ever. We saw everything on our first game drive which was just amazing. Our driver, Joseph, always knew where to go and we owe a big “thank you” to him. The Lodge is beautiful and the staff are very friendly. Our room was clean and spacious and we never saw any bugs or spiders as mentioned in one review. They have a buffet for all meals and some live cooking and the meals were always different and delicious. We were entertained by Masai dancers in the evening. Some of the drive back to Nairobi was horrible due to the bad road.
Keekorok, we will be back again.

My husband and I were on vacation in Kenya and the tour company sent us here. This was the most DISGUSTING lodge. The staff is horrible and rude for staters and that is just the tip of the iceberg. The food in the BUFFET is recycled! I figured this out when I saw 3 different types of pasta from previous meals all stuffed into the serving tray and they tried to cover it with sauce. The cheese was hard and the bread was stale...my husband and I got extremely sick from the food. To make matters worse, each cabin door has a two inch gap where lizards, spiders and slugs can get into the room. I was in the shower when I noticed about 20 slugs in there with me...then at night the giant spiders were landing on the mosquito net surrounding the bed I was horrified. Our last morning in this hell hole the shower was cold....DO NOT STAY HERE and if your tour company has this lodge listed please call them to switch for your own safety and sanity!

I lead tours to Kenya yearly and have been using Keekorok Lodge for our groups for about 10 years. Sadly, because of our experience in November, we have decided to take our business elsewhere for our future safaris groups. The gift shop was dismal with most of the shelves empty. The manager told us that a bus full of children had been there the day before and had bought everything in the shop which I find hard to believe. Food was served by the pool which resulted in missing food, inconvenience, and also servers who were confused and disorganized. Main food selections were mostly Indian dishes for both lunch and dinner, basically the same every day. We had to apologize to our group for the gift shop as we had encouraged them to their gift shopping at Keekorok instead of curio shops. There was nothing to buy! Staff morale was low. No computer center available this visit. When we left, our driver (and other drivers for that matter) had difficulty as the hotel had no gas available to fill tour vehicles.

Hote is in a prime location for game viewing in the eastern Mara. The reception, public areas and grounds are excellent. The restaurant is badly lit and rather gloomy. The food and restaurant management were very poor in comparison with similar lodges in the Mara and other reserves/parks. The rooms are in need of refurbishment. The bathrooms are gloomy and old - our toilet did not work and was not repaired during our two night stay. Bed linen was worn out with holes. Front line service, except for the dining room management, was very friendly and efficient.

Having stayed there for two nights services were exemplary great. But the in the absence of the manager and with all due respect to the lady in-charge Modesta, she leaves a lot to be desired she proved to be cocky, ill informed on facts, emotional and failed to offer simple guidelines especially to residents guest patronizing on her part was evident.otherwise the rest of the staff were great, food amazing and every other service was beyond our expectations. The game viewing was beautiful ad rewarding a sure get away.

We stood there for 3 days, 2 nights, part of a 8 days Safari. I can say the it was the most incredible experience. The location is absolutly divine, the sounds are amazing (we recorded an 8 minute audio with the morning sounds and it's more calming than any chillout track you could find). The personel is very attentive and warm. Our favourite was Job. He represents the spirit of a maasai for us. He is very content with the life he lives and also gives away a positive karma. Please say hello to him from Romania.
Everything is clean in the room, we never experienced problems with the electricity (we know the hotel runs with generators so they must save energy. every day there's no electricity from 12 to 4pm), the hippo pound is an amazing location to relax over a cold drink and also the fact that it is fenceless makes the experience even more thrilling.
I am sure we will be back!!
