“Fantastic location, Fantastic lodge”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 27, 2010

My husband and I spent 2 nights at this lodge as part of the airtours splendours of Africa safari on our honeymoon. The lodge is fantastic. It's in a fantastic location, its in a valley with a hippo pool. Just outside the gates we found amazing amounts of wildlife. On our first game drive we found 7 Hyenas 200 metres outside the gates!
The hotel grounds are immaculate, the gardens are beautiful. Whilst we were there the maasai guard and the groundsman swapped places and the maasai gaurd was mowing the lawn and the groundsman was fending off the monkeys! The hippo pool is great, we spent hours there watching the hippos and wildlife around the pool. There were lots of baby hippos there when we were there. We also watched a couple of fights which was great for photos. They make the most amazing noises which you can hear from all over the lodge!
Our room was good. It was fairly large, the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was clean.
The staff were brilliant. My husband was really ill for one of the days we were there and was unable to get out of bed. The staff were brilliant! Always asking how he was, taking tea to our room and helping me take my dinner to our room. Dikson inparticular was brilliant! If you need anything whist you are there hunt him down!
The gift shop was by far the best we went to, its huge! Its also better priced than any of the others we found in lodges.
I would recommend this lodge. The location is unreal. We saw so much wildlife in the mara. We saw lots of Cheetahs and lots and lots of lions (including cubs!). The lodge is also great. We will be returning!

We stayed at Keekorok for 2 nights as part of the Thomas Cook Kenya Discovery tour. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and found the whole atmosphere friendly and relaxing. The grounds are lovely and the wooden walkway to the hippo pool is a great idea. We even had hippos outside our lodge grazing during the night. The food was lovely and plentiful and the room clean and tidy. The only thing if I was being really picky is a little bit more room in the lodges would be good as once the mosquito nets are pulled around the bed it is a bit tight for space. On the game drives we saw plenty of animals, over 2 days we counted 54 different lions and 12 cheetahs, including a mum and 6 young ones. On one drive we took a picnic lunch provided by the hotel which was lovely and a nice treat. It wasn't too busy whilst we were there which meant it was a quiet and relaxing stay.

After our stay at The Ark ( Aberdere Country Club) and Nakuro Lake , we drove to Masai Mara through the african wild roads , to reach after a 5 hour drive our destiny :
Masai Mara and Keekorok Lodge .

As a family party of 6 , we were lodged in one whole bungallow . The rooms were quite O.K. , the restaurant , and pool plus gardens are stupendous , and once at night , our bungallow was even visited by a cheetah !

We stayed here for 4 days - 3 nights , and it was a stupendous way to show to our daughters , son and nephew the spectacle of african savanah sceneries and it´s wide variety of wildlife .

Service in the restaurant deserves a quote , for it's courteous/friendly behaviour and service .
On the 13th April , our youngest daughter celebrated there her 8th birthday ...
It was an unforgettable experience for her and all of us , when , at dinner , all the lights of the restaurant went down , and all the wayters carrying their own torches made an appearance at the dinning room chanting their congratulations to our daughter Vera .

When in Kenya , do not miss the opportunity !

We just returned from our second safari. It was a great experience.

This is not a 5 star hotel, but I do not believe it was designed to be. It is meant to be a wildlife lodge.

The room was basic with mosquito net, nice shower, excellent views, and decent bed.

The best part was the location - it was actually inside the park! Animals all around!

There were huge hippos, buffalo and monkeys right outside our room on several occasions! The staff were attentive and would escort us around for safety.

The food was pretty good overall, and they catered to my wife who is vegetarian.

We booked this lodge and Masai Mara safari through William Mangi who is the owner of Kenya Explorer Safaris. He gave us excellent personalized attention and our very own private safari at an excellent price! Though migration was ending, he was able to find all the animals with ease and did not rush us.

Would definitely do this safari again!

At the end of a wonderful 7 day safari we were very disappointed to be at the Keekorok. The rooms were dirty, the toilet was broken, the food started off ok but it got busy and the staff couldnt cope, they ran out of plates they ran out of food, at dinner I had my meal in a pudding bowl, one couple in our group had mossie net held together by sticky plasters, we had heard the keekorok had been taken over its not good they need to improve fast. The keekorok was not up to the standard of the other lodges we had stayed at.
The surrounding area is amazing, balloon trip just fantastic, animals galore, such a shame about this lodge.

A great place to stay in the awe inspiring Masai Mara.
Not luxurious, food fine/good, rooms small but OK, staff friendly helpful.
Location is fantastic.
Hippo pool heaving with hippos, elephants wandering by, bird life varied. Hippos on lawn at night & munching outside room door at dawn!
Stayed for 3 nights as part of Kuoni Leopard Safari. A marvelous end to a memory filled holiday.
Out on the drives:
we saw many lions, close up, far away, walking, sleeping, mating, washing.
2 leopards on one day, one up a tree, one walking along a path & climbing up 2 trees
3 cheetahs hunting together
1 cheetah with 6 cubs
all the other large & small animals you could wish to see.
We were all quite emotionally overcome at times with what we saw

The hotel provides all you need from a holiday of this nature. The drive to the hotel is full of adventure. Great food. David and Emmanuel take care of you when getting about at night. Should visit the hippo bar at night. A cheetah killed a gazelle close to the hippo bar (300 meters away from lobby).WOW. Had the staff singing happy birthday at 6am for one of the guest with great harmony.Super friendly staff.
