Mara Serena Safari Lodge

I traveled with my 4 year old daughter to Kenya for a vacation and our stay at the Mara Serena was by far the highlight of our trip. This is the ideal place for a former backpacker, now mother to go on vacation with her child!! She was likely the youngest person while we were there, and was absolutely doted on! The entire staff is fantastic! In particular Dan, the assistant manager, and Sammy and Nicholas, both of whom took us on game drives, were wonderful. Dan made a point to ensure we were enjoying our stay, chatting with us whenever we saw him. After our Nairobi hotel caused us to miss our flight to the Mara Serena airstrip, Dan arranged to have us picked up at a nearby airstrip by Sammy, a guide, who didn't just pick us up and take us to the hotel. He took us on a fantastic game drive! We saw elephants, lions, hyenas, hippos, zebras... I can't even name all the animals! They made what would otherwise have been a very frustrating day WONDERFUL.

Later, Nicholas, another guide, also took us on fantastic game drives. Each time, we went out by ourselves (so much easier with a four year old!) and it was unbelievable. Nicholas was absolutely determined to find us the best animal sightings possible, taking us to places where we would be the only people to see lions among zebras, elephants, giraffes... A field of animals! It is clear that the Mara Serena guides are proud of what they do, and do an excellent job.

The location of the hotel is also remarkable. One night, we had a hippo right outside our room for about a half an hour (okay, I was admittedly frightened and grateful my daughter was sleeping, but now it's a fantastic story!). We had animals stroll by while just sitting there. Baboons greeted us at our door one day (I'm not sure who was more surprised - us or them!). The rooms are clean - the showers were better than at the hotel in Nairobi for water pressure! Now, you can admittedly hear if people are loud in neighbouring rooms, but other than the hippo just outside, I never heard a peep after 10pm - everyone was too excited about what awaited the next day to stay up late! The food was excellent (although I wish I would have taken them up on the earlier dinner available for children earlier in our stay - 730 was a little late for my daughter to eat).

My daughter would tell you the highlight was when the lion growled at her (she clapped - a no no in the park, but she was so excited - and certainly stopped in a hurry!) and the hippo breakfast picnic. I would say the game drives and our REMARKABLE trip to a Masai village were the highlights for me.

I highly recommend you visit the Mara Serena Hotel - you will love it!

Room Tip: We were towards the end of the row - the best place to be! There are open areas at the end (perfect...

We stayed here during the migration - and it was an amazing experience

Rooms are very nice and have an african feel; food is very good and staff are very hospitable. They have a good gym and pool too.

Overall a great place to stay and would definitely recommend

Recently stayed at the lodge with family and loved every thing about it. Food, service and facilities are excellent! Used the spa for a massage and was amazing although slightly overpriced. You can gym with a view here. Service was exceptional with staff responding to our needs efficiently. I'm definitely coming back here!

When we arrived here, we were surprised a little bit becaus it's rather "big". We came from more little lodges in Tanzania, very quiet, and here it was very busy with a lot of people coming and going. But the location is fantastic, and it's the best place to stay in time of migration (best 10-20 july). The rooms are very nice and clean, the room view is superb, the service is good, you just have to know that there are a lot of Indian people here who take the hotel as "their property" and are very noisy and dominant...
The restaurant is rather busy also and not very charming, but if you have a table on the "half outside" terrace part it's nice ! The food is OK , the buffet like in every lodge....
No bad experiences...only not the "charming african feeling"...

Room Tip: The rooms are rather all the same, but how farther you get from the mean building you have to do muc...

This really is a gem of a hotel. Miles from anywhere yet with all the mod cons. The wildlife is literally on your doorstep!
The rock hyrax are adorable. The pool can be a bit cold but you're not the for the pool!

We stayed at this Hotel in August . Well the Hotel is much the same as an ordinary 4star property in Masai Mara national park but the speciality of this hotel is its spectacular view of Masai Mara and its Masai architecture . The architecture is a spectacular blending a Masai culture of architecture in creating rooms and the reception area

The best part of this hotel the room has a best view when you open the balcony you can see miles and miles of forest . It is quite difficult for me to explain as I believe seeing is believing . Having a cup of coffee in the balcony is the best moment of your life you can have . Additionally the hotel has a excellent gym with sauna and steam room and a gym with a fantastic view of Mara national park . additionally a very courteous staff at your service . The best part about the staff is serving . I saw about this staff that after you seat bringing your meal at the table the staff will come at your table and ask you if you need anything additional to be brought from the buffet table without yourself getting up again , This courtesy is very unusual . The best part to reach Mara is by air from Nairobi as road conditions are bad .

Room Tip: Well the property is well managed by Serena group of hotels . Take a room on right side each room is...
