“Great place for Student Group”
Reviewed April 10, 2014

I took a group of student to Encounter Mara and it was fantastic - a highlight for our trip to Kenya. Great food, great accommodations. Certainly advise a trip into the Mara Reserve, all the way to the Mara River, if possible.

The guides were fantastic as well. I'll certainly consider Encounter again for my next group.

Highly recommended

Room Tip: All the rooms are good - just careful you don't get double-booked.

Our time at the Encounter Mara camp was the highlight in a trip full of highlights. We loved everything about it - the location (with all the animals so close by,) our tent, the amazing food, the way the days were designed, just everything. My favourite moment was when the staff sang and danced at the campfire. Encounter Mara was truly wonderful in every way, but mostly in the incredible service we received from every member of the staff we encountered. Sam and Chris are always looking for ways to make their guests' experience special. I know that all the driver/guides are excellent but I can't imagine one better than our guide "Dickson Sr." I believe that the driver/guides are the most important component on a safari. It is they who will make or break the experience, and Dickson is worth gold!

The time at Encounter Mara was absolutely fantastic!!! My wife and I took this trip with 10 other friends and it was the trip of a lifetime. The staff, the food, the management, the tent accommodations and most of all the guides were of the highest quality. I can't thank the guides enough for their insights, skills and willingness to do all they could to make our game rides top notch. Between the 12 of us we took more than 2,500 pictures in just 2 days, the guides new exactly how to put us in the best places for the best shots.

Room Tip: Not a bad tent in the whole place!!

My wife has already posted a review but non the less.

Firstly, the bush plane in is fantastic, Encounter Mara where ready and waiting. The park is fantastic, it has very camps and they are limited with the cars so it doesn't feel to commercial or touristy, you get a real feel for the conservancy.

The camp is stunning, the website photos don't do it any justice. The staff are fantastic and more than help. The guide, Nelson, was knowledgeable and nothing was to much, even when we added in visits to the villages, schools and night drives. He was very friendly and assigned to us for our stay. We where lucky enough to have exclusive use of a 4x4 and his driving skills are excellent.

The little things make all the difference, hot cups to take on the morning drives, choice of sun downers, a surprise bush brunch, welcome drinks on arrival, availability of charging points, the fact that there is no fences and you can hear the animals out side of your tent in the night. The tents where comfortable and some of the best showers we ever had.

The food - there is plenty of it and its five star cooking! I'm amazed how good it was as they cook in tents.

The whole camp pushes the eco aspect and is respectful of the enviroment.

I'd like that Nelson or guide, Andrew and Sammy the managers along with the team that looked after us.

If you are quivering over booking, don't we added another night and are looking to book for later in the year.

We will still be talking about Encounter Mara in 20 years time.

I wish there was something bad to say about Encounter Mara so I'm taken more seriously but this was a once in a lifetime experience. The service, rooms, food, EVERYTHING was PHENOMENAL! I can't wait to return!

My husband and I booked 4 nights, it was that good we extended for an extra night. My first time in Africa and on safari and I was blown away. The camp and staff were great. We were very lucky as the camp was quiet when we arrived, so we had our own guide 'Nelson' who was the best. He made the game drives a great experience, so knowledgeable and friendly.
The camp is definitely luxury but at the same time ensuring its eco friendly. No there is no swimming pool, but you really don't need it. We visited a school and the masai village and watched animals from our tent.
We booked for the fact they used open sided 4x4 and the guides were local Masai. In fact pretty much the whole staff are local which is great to see and makes the experience that much better.
They really do make you feel special and go out of their way to make your stay the best. We even had a brilliant surprise of a bush brunch. As we turned the corner the staff were all there will a private table in the middle of the bush. Chef and staff ready to cook our breakfast in the bush.
This whole experience was a second honeymoon for us. Thank you so much to all the staff and especially our guide/driver/sundowner barman Nelson, he was great.

Room Tip: Tent 4 was great, we saw giraffe and other animals in the day and plenty of action at night. Tent 1...

So much to say, so little time to say it. This is unfortunately the case when living in the hustle and bustle of Nairobi, or any other half civilised town or city. However this rat race was all forgotten when spending a weekend at Encounter Mara Camp. Everything was care free. From the managing of our booking by their central team, to the collection and hosting by our Masaai guide who was friendly, polite, well spoken and extremely knowledgeable. The camp itself was fully eco-friendly yet still complete luxury. Our private tent included a king sized bed, hot running water, drinking water and any other detail you would expect from a luxurious hotel as far as a turn down service in the evening. In the words of my girlfriend, 'now this is what camping should be'. Food was delicious and plentiful. We had full control over our agenda, however we chose to stick to the camps suggestion of morning and evening game drives, leaving mid day to rest and lazy afternoon reading and sleeps, similar to the wildlife in the region. Game viewing was exceptional! And the greater conservancy can only be described as one of the most beautiful and untouched corners of earth. If I had young children I would probably look for something more developed with a pool or entertainment, but for a more mature group of friends or travellers, or a weekend away for two, Encounter Mara was truly a magical experience. Thank you to everyone involved. I very much recommend it to anyone looking at getting away for a couple of days.
