“Top Luxury Camp in Mara”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Excellent Camp. Excellent Location. We were a group of 10 visiting Mara in June 2013. The whole camp is beautifully built on an oxbow bend of the river providing a river view from anywhere in the camp. Each tent has a view of the river with a balcony. Tents are large with plenty of space & all en-suite & clean. The food is just fantastic with a choice of cuisines. Its location in the Centre of Mara makes it easy access to all other parts of the Mara. A small pool adds another star to the camp. Truly 5 Star Luxury in the bush! We will definitely recommend this camp to all our customers.

Room Tip: No tips required at this camp. All luxury tents are beautifully located with each tent having a view...

Really fantastic camp. Stayed here for two nights as part of the cheetah safari with somak. Over looks a river which is home to hippos and crocs. The camp is fuelled by a generator which is turned off during certain times of the day and night so you will need a torch is you tend to want to go to the bathroom through the night. To get to this camp it is a long drive 2hrs down a very bumpy and dusty track so handy to have a cushion with you. Food is good with a variety of local curries. Fabulous service from Vincent. The tent was well laid out and as the nights drop down Micheal was there with a hot water bottle lovely! Whilst here we had breakfast with the hippos which was wonderful. The mara itself didn't disappoint the wildebeast had started the migration and it was wonderful to see them as far as the eye could see and with such an abundance of food there was pleny of lions cheetahs and leopards to spot.

Ashnil Mara is well located by a river and also close to the famous Migration point. Great big rooms - with most of the rooms there is a river view - you can sit in your private balcony and enjoy the sounds of the Hippo in the river. Food is world class. They organise a special bush dinner which as the name suggests is a full course meal in the middle of the bush - a must do experience.

This was a great place to stay while we were in the Maasai Mara part of our safari - the great pity being that we weren't there longer (only two nights, sadly). The "tents" are great (and of course nothing like what most people would consider tents back home), the food's good, the pool area pleasant, nothing is too much trouble for the staff... and best of all, it's in a great location in the Mara, which for me is heaven on earth. We weren't lucky enough to see a leopard but did see everything else we wanted to during our game drives. Wonderful place.

So sad to leave this camp and the sound of the hippos so close while we sipped drinks on the terrace or stargazed by the fire. Everyone knew our name, the chefs were so proud of their food (the buffets were amazing and we had 3 desserts every lunch and dinner!). Moses in the dining room also deserves a special mention.

It was wonderful to relax by the pool and nothing was too much trouble.

The tents were spacious, bathrooms lovely and we enjoyed the 'love seat' on our balcony where we curled up with a night cap.

Me and my family spent 2 nights at this charming camp in Masai Mara. The camp is lost in savanna and located next to river Mara where you can see hippos screaming and swimming. We had standard room. But i must say the room was very well built and had stylish wooden furniture of good quality. At night the electricity was suddenly switched off. At the same moment we heard hippo's screaming and i felt myself in wilderness. If you are in Africa you have to experience it! I wondered really that in any hotel we visited in Africa slippers were not supplied in the room. Almost everywhere there was a stone floor in rooms and in May it was very cold to walk barefoot. So take your slippers with you when you travel in Africa ;-) The food in restaurant for the dinner was a la carte, delicious and sutable for vegeterian. so we had 2 dinners threre and every time the menu was different. The staff was VERY smiling and helpful. Thank you very much for your service. It was incredible. I m very glad have been visiting this really african Hotel with genuine smiles!

We spent 3 nights at this camp at the end of June. It was a pleasant experience that was taken to a higher level by Moussa our driver. He gave us an experience of a lifetime, seeing the beginning of the migration and getting us a sight of wildebeest crossing he river. He is a credit to this company. The lodge itself was excellent although a little dark. The food was great although the staff only did what they had to do. Maybe the company should send the Mara staff up to Samburu for some lessons in customer relations and "Going the extra mile" (Moussa excepted) Unfortunately for us we were at a tent at the far end of the camp right in front of the generator so if you book this lodge ask NOT to be put in no.34 as it is noisy a long walk to the restaurant and a very poorly lit path. Maybe they should invest in some small solar lights to help light the paths. Overall a good experience

Room Tip: ask not to be put in No.34
