“A real pearl in the Masai Mara”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 6, 2010

We stayed in the main house full board for a week in August. The whole stay was simply magical. We had a dedicated house keeper who looked after us and a cook who made the most delicious meals. We ate like Kings and were treated as such too. The house rental also came with its own driver for private game drives. Joseph was an amazing guide who made sure we had a safari trip of a life time. We saw the big five, but finding leopards was the highlight of the week. The house was very comfortable and lazing beside the river in the afternoons on big cushions made the stay complete. We can't recommend Mara Enkipai and its owners George and Vanessa more highly.

I am a photographer and my work brings me to a lot of different places, sometimes in dangerous places like the Congo or very very remote places where very few go. Sometimes magazine send me to photograph the most beautiful people in the most amazing places, i call it the blue world.
Mara Enkipai Safari Camp is one of these places, where beauty and peace finally come together to become one.
It is a special place, a gem, a secret you want to keep for you and share only with a few, as it is so magical....i highly recommend it but please tell only the ones who truly deserve it.

My wife and I took our son to celebrate his 7th birthday to Mara Enkipai.
We all stayed in a beautiful and luxuous tent by the river facing the Hippos. The high quality service was extremely friendly. At this period of the year, we saw a lot of game in the Maasai Mara and went also for a fantastic afternoon trek on the escarpment offering us breathtaking views on the endless plains below.....definitely a place to come back...!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Jacqueline Roumeguere-Eberhardt was born and raised in Northern Transvaal, South Africa and initiated as a Venda Princess. She studied Anthropology in The Sorbonne in Paris where she met her first husband Pierre Roumeguere. They set off together on many adventures in Africa, Pierre as a Diplomat and Jacqueline working for the French National Council of Scientific Research (CNRS). In the early 60’s, after spending 3 months in the desert looking for the Lost City of the Kalahari, they ended up in Kenya where Jacqueline decided to record the Maasai people’s amazing ceremonial cycle. She spent her whole life photographing, filming and observing ceremonies that may never happen again. She fell in love with Ole Kapusia, a young and valiant warrior who not only helped her with her research but also raised her three French children, Isabelle, Carolyn and George. In 1979, Jacqueline and Ole Kapusia built a family home, Mara Enkipai, where Jacqueline spent a lot of time writing. Her last book yet to be published is called ‘My husband’s six wives….’. By the time she finished writing it, Jacqueline was the first of Ole Kapusia’s nine wives. Jacqueline’s writing refuge has now been opened by George & Vanessa Roumeguere, her son & daughter-in-law. The couple aspire to share with each guest a little of the passion, adventure and culture of this unusual family home. ... more   less
