Wonderful staff, fabulous food, beautiful accommodations.
The best part is that they are located in a new Conservancy so beds are very limited. You don't see 50 cars on one lion like you do in the Reserve!
The BEST camp in the Mara!!

Arrival to this remote yet so inviting Mara Plains really drove home "in the bush", especially crossing the footbridge looking down at family of hippos in brown river below. Real sense of arrival as you ascend stairs to dining tent deck and gaze across Maasai Mara to toward to a lone acacia tree surrounded by wildebeest and zebras....every animal sound imaginable surrounds this camp designed with luxe tents elevated 8' above it all.

The raised tents are truly gorgeous with all the amenities of a 5-star hotel and the adventure of camping in the bush. I loved hearing the birds and other wildlife in the morning as the day was just beginning. And our hosts Amy and Shawn were delightful! The food was delicious and what a treat to eat outside under the stars.

Mara Plains is one of the best (if not The best) places we have ever visited and stayed at. The camp is well located with great views, Amy and Shaun are excellent hosts, the staff is well trained and courteous. We had some great drives, our driver / guide was very knowledgeable and almost produced wildlife 'on demand'. In addition to the big game, we managed to see a lot of bird life and Dan was able to identify all the birds.
The camp is located in the Conservancy which has few tourists and thus few vans when the big cats are spotted at a kill. The tents are spaced in a way to offer maximum privacy. In fact the dwellings are so good it's difficult to call them 'tents'.
The food is also unexpectedly delicious. A number of ingredients are from the camp's own garden. Desserts at every meal are evil. They even baked a cake for our wedding anniversary.
Very highly recommended.

Dear Sanjay and Sampa.

Shaun and I still speak about the both of you and how we loved having the both of you sharing our “home” with us. It was so lovely to see the both of you relaxing and enjoying the camp, always with a drink in hand and a friendly smile.

Thank you for all the lovely lunches and dinners we shared..

Hope all is well in Angola and Sampa in the UK.
All the best

We just returned from a wonderful 8 night stay at Mara Plains Camp. The accommodations are top-notch, the staff could not have treated us better, the food was amazing and varied. Our drivers (Ping and Kevin) were great also. Not a single thing to complain about. If you are planning a visit to the Maasai Mara area, check this place out!

Room Tip: All the rooms are lovely!

Let's face it, when you tick off something on your 'bucket list', you need to feel a sense of satisfaction and believe that you've achieved some sort of lifetime goal, something extraordinary, something unforgettable.

Well, our 'bucket list' has just become shorter but our memory banks have been enriched in a way that we never would have believed possible.

Mara Plains is, without doubt, one of the highlights of our lives.

The accommodation is an entire bracket above anything else we have ever had the good fortune to experience (you keep expecting Robert Redford and Meryl Streep to join you for lunch or dinner, or even to be penning a letter back to the 'old country' from the writing table in your room).

We were kindly allocated the tent (joke) on the far left of the camp which literally overhangs the river and its resident hippo and crocodile families (there is nothing quite like falling asleep to the incredibly close sound of hippos chatting to one another). To say that the rooms, the dining and the relaxation areas are 'out of this world' would be a terrible disservice to the interior designers and the owners. They are magnificent.

This is a very special place indeed.

Our hosts Shaun and Amy made us immediately, and genuinely, welcome and we instantly felt like we'd known them all our lives (almost family). They, and all the wonderfully friendly and remarkably unobtrusive members of their team made us feel like royalty and left us believing that we were experiencing something unique. The food, and the under-star locations that were set up for us to enjoy it in, were simply magnificent (and, if we didn't say it enough when we were there, "our compliments need to go to the very talented chef').

Of course, at trip to the game reserve would be nothing without game.

Over the years, we have spent a good deal of our leisure time 'in the bush'. But, with the help and friendship of Edwin, our amazing guide for the three days, we both believe that the plains and riverine forests of the Masai Mara have topped all of our game viewing experiences. You name it and we saw it... and in abundance.

And then, as if all this was, in some way, not enough, all guests on their arrival are given the use of some very serious game viewing equipment to experience and enjoy for the time of their stay(Canon 7D camera, 100-400mm L and 24-70mm L lenses and a pair of Swarovski binoculars).

This is a very special place indeed.

Thank you for the privilege of being able to experience and enjoy your hospitality.

Shelley and Mike Ellman-Brown

Mara Plains was a piece of heaven. Thanks to Lorna,
Richard, Amy and Shaun, my stay at Mara Plains couldnt have been nicer. They bent over backwards to accommodate your every need. The staff were all very professional. The food was excellent. My guide, Kevin, went out of his way to find wildlife which was numerous. If you want to experience a Safari, I highly recommend going to Mara Plains.
