Stayed for 2 nights while on a safari, flew from Diani Beach to the Masai Mara, a strip approx 30 minutes away from the camp. The camp only has 7 tents which is great. All set side by side (but not too close) along the river.

The "tents": with a roof and a "real" bathroom but "tent walls" in the main room (so it can get noisy with the animals at night!). 2 4 poster beds, a seating area inside and outside. Dressing area leading to a nice bathroom with large walk in shower with large showerhead. Flush toilet. Really comfortable and even better than where we were staying in Diani Beach. Everything is pretty new as the camp has only been opened for approx. 18 months.

The grounds: nice clean grounds around the tents. There is a large terrace overlooking the terrace where you can sit out and have a drink while enjoying the scenery. Smaller shaded terrace on the side where they serve lunch. Nice large reception room with a small bar, a sitting area by a chimney, and a restaurant area.

Food: excellent food with 5 course meal even for breakfast.

Staff: made up of masai men who are very discreet but friendly and really efficient. At night there is always someone waiting nearby in case you need a light to go around the camp. The manager of the camp is also really friendly.

Surroundings: the camp is located within walking distance of a few masai villages incl. schools etc. We went to visit the masai village, our guide being one of the guys working at the camp but who lives in that village. Definitely worth a visit.

Overall we loved our stay at Camp Oloshaiki and would recommend it to anyone looking for an intimate, luxurious experience during their Safari.

PS: we booked the safari direct with WT Safari in Diani - good service and good negotiable prices, much better than tour operators. Recommended.

The whole camp is made up of just 6 tents, each of which is enormous with a king-size+ bed and a queen-size+ both of which are four posters with the obligatory mosquito netting. To the rear of the tent is a large wardrobe/dressing area with a lovely walk-in shower, washbasin and separate toilet off. All six tents line up along the banks of the Talek River with an abundance of birds and frequent baboon and monkey visitors.

There are over 20 staff in total all of whom display the wonderful Kenyan friendliness and will do whatever they can to meet your every need (including recharging camera batteries - there are no plugs in the tents but they are available in the main dining/bar area). Masai guards are available to accompany guests by torch and lantern from the tents to the dining room for the evening meal and for early safari starts. We found that all the staff, irrespective of their role, were extraordinarily attentive without being "fawning".
Meals consist of starter, soup, main course (choice of two) and sweet, all of which are waiter-served - this is more limited than in the larger lodges but is probably considerably less wasteful!

While this camp is just outside the Talek gate, this in no way detracted from the safaris which were some of the best we have ever experienced (in spite of the two massive storms!). The driver/guide was incredibly experienced, knowledgeable and was very good in the 4-wheel drive when the going got tough! We watched a cheetah stalk and take an impala on our drive to the camp from the airport, saw four 3 week-old cubs, tracked down a leopard and got up close to a pride of lions, as well as elephant, giraffe, "pumba" etc etc. While drivers were in touch and tipping each other off, there was less of the "circus" feel than we have experienced elsewhere on the Mara when an unfortunate animal becomes the object of multi-vehicle attention!!

There is not much else to "do" other than eat, take a drink by the wood fire and rest and I suspect this would not necessarily appeal to all, but this camp gives off a wonderful serenity and calm and a feeling of being up close and personal with the "real" africa, I found it a great complement to the amazing safari experience.
