I was fortunate that when I was recently in the Mara North Conservancy there were so few tourists. I saw plenty of wildlife. The sightings of big cats were especially good.
I don't think that this conservancy is being overwhelmed by Masai pastoralists. There is still plenty of room for both wildlife and humans.
A camp of two extremes, if you want to be at one with nature and share your space with wild animals but sleep in white duvet sheets then this is the camp for you. Flushing toilets , hot showers and the flashlight escorting system that works extremely well.
We were welcomed by Cerys and two of the Masi staff before being lead over the bridge into Kicheche camp. All the staff are very tentative to your needs. But respect your space and allowed you to relax and enjoy the camp and drives as you see fit.
The communal spirit of sharing drinks around the camp fire before sitting down to a delicious 3 course meal was a new experience for me and at first I was a little put off. However, it really does mean you can bond and reminisce in your shared experience and interest with the other guest which was nice.
As an example of how the staff catered for my personal taste, I made a flippant comment about not have any real whisky (no Spayside single malt), our host jumped to her feet and came back five minutes later with a Glenfiddich in hand and the banoffee pie gets 11/10.
Our driver Saruni was very good, knowledgeable and friendly. He was excellent at explaining the eco system and how the animals co-exist. As I was predominantly on a photography holiday, he was able to get me into the best positions to take advantage of the beautiful back drop and light.
Indeed I had a camera malfunction on our first drive and Saruni was so helpful at trying to troubleshoot with me, he then called on the radio and got help from other photographers. Turns out, it was dust in the SD card slot!
I had a great experience and I wish all the Kicheche camp family every continued success for the future.
It‘s very worth to go to Mara North Conservancy, after visiting 5 other national parks in Kenya (all very nice to see), we could see here by far the most of the big cats...and very close, because you are allowed to drive off-road. The park is very well maintained by the here living Maasai!
We captured baby elephants and elephants surrounded by beautiful scenery. We also saw a variety of giraffes to our surprise and two cheetahs which made our day.
This conservancy (to the north of the Maasai Mara / Serengeti region) - managed by the Maasai people - provided one of the best wild animal game experiences we've enjoyed on 7 African safaris over 20 years. We stayed at the "top-notch" Kicheche Mara Camp. Everything about this camp was great - the location, staff, facilities and, particularly, the animal encounters. Overall, an impressive experience (based on having stayed at around 40 camps).
This visit had been on my bucket list for years and I was not disappointed. The animals were amazing, and non seemed bothered by safari bus's stopping just beside them, they just carried on doing what they wanted. We saw a huge variety of animals with real close ups of lions, and cheetahs. One memory that I will not forget is seeing three cheetahs laying together, then as more safari bus's arrived one got up to lay under a bus in the shade, followed by the others. Another memorable sight, was a lion looking in the bushes, when suddenly eight others came out from them, and greeted each other with such enthusiasm and obvious love, with lots of licks and head rubbing.
There was so much more to see as well, my advice is to go, you will not be disappointed
