Mara North Conservancy was my introduction to the Maasai Mara region of Kenya and it delivered way way way beyond expectation. Apart from being the place where I sighted my first cheetah - and then went on to locate them for successive days - there was the Tuesday that would not get beaten - a pride of lions, with cubs, dragging a zebra kill into the scrub at sunrise, a leopard lunchtime sighting with a difference, with the leopard chased off by two huge baboons, and then, at sunset, a 20 minute stand-off between two lionesses with another zebra kill vs at least 20 hyena. Spine tingling stuff, which, courtesy of my wonderful guide Tinka from Saruni Mara, we had front row seats to. There were lion cubs galore, a baby zebra born in front of my eyes, pretty much everything an avid photographer could hope for. Feb/March was the perfect time to visit - not too hot, not very many people and loads of babies/new life. Can't wait to go back.
What amazing sightings. We saw a pride of lions hunting. Two cheetahs. A male elephant. A leopard. Plenty of buffalo. Big 4 to say the least
Wildlife abounds in surreally gorgeous setting. Animals are safe and protected and the environment is pristine.
Staying at Offbeat Mara in the North conservancy gives you the advatnage of fabulous animal sightings. Always see everything, leopards, lions, cheetahs you name it you'll find it. Guides from Offbeat are all at least silver certified guides so not just drivers. So knowledgeable about animal behavior. the most authentic experience ever.
Conservancy with lots of wildlife and not many vehicles as in the Masai Mara game reserve. You can only go on game drive if you are staying at one of the hotels or camps
A definite must to see when in Kenya. Animals are outstanding and the land goes on forever, just breathe taking!
