Stayed 3 nights last month. Just amazing - everything says quality with Ngerende. There are only 7 tents which makes the place feel very exclusive - beautifully appointed with lovely terrace overlooking the Mara River. Service from the moment you arrive (with a special Masai welcome!) is great- they do succeed in making you feel right at home and Rafael our assigned butler did a great job- from serving at mealtimes and at the pool to making up our room, running a great bath and preparing the gorgeous roaring fire for us. The game viewing (which is why we are all there afterall) was also superb. Our full day in the Mara national Park allowed us the privilege of seeing a leopard, tons of lion, buffalo, giraffe, jackal warthogs etc etc. The food was delicious and well presented with numerous ingredients from the lodge garden. Occupancy was low the first day (just us but thats good) but guests form all over the world soon arrived. Will always remember being woken early by the hippos in the river and would recommend Ngerende to anyone looking for a high quality Kenyan safari experience. High points - lunch for two in the middle of the Mara with full "restaurant" service by the chef and waiters etc -they even brought a toilet cubicle for us!! MInor gripe - the hot water producttion doesnt work very well for a shower and you have to leave it running for 10-15 mins and even then its a bit tepid- but overall who cares- stunning.

Ngrende is the most incredible safari lodge and I cannot recommend it more highly. We stayed for 4 days, 3 nights and wish we had an extra night there. On arrival we were met by the masai people and all the staff who made us feel very special and pampered throughout our stay. The setting is right on the bank of the mara river and the infinity pool overlooks a pod of hippos. The lodge we stayed in was beautiful, with large bedroom, bathroom (bath with views over the river), walk in wardrobe and stunning terrace with plunge pool. We were assigned a butler who ensures everything runs smoothly, we were very fortunate to have Rafael who we cannot thank enough for all he did. The service was first class and very personal. Rafael made sure we were very well looked after with bubble baths, fire in the evening, hot water bottles and amazing food, Rafael thought of everything we could ever want. We really miss him! I dont want to give too much away but the 4 days was packed with lovely touches and surprises. The game drives were brilliant. Daniel gave us lots of interesting info about the animals and masai people. We visited the village and wish we had enough time to also visit the school danniel set up. We saw loads of animals (including 4 of the big 5) and got really close to the migration, lions and their cubs. We would be the first to see animals with other safari jeeps following behind! I cannot write enough about Ngrende, Tom and I felt very lucky to stay somewhere as special as Ngrende. Nothing is too much effort and from start to finish everyone made sure our honeymoon was the trip of a lifetime. Thank you so much and I am already planning our trip back

Room Tip: We stayed in lodge 7 the honeymoon suite

Ngerende lodge was one of the best experiences of our lifetimes. From beginning to end the staff really went over and beyond. Daniel welcomed us at the airstrip and from then on it was five star service. We were able to experience the Masai culture while being in a setting of extreme luxury. We danced with the Masai people, had our personal chef, chef isaac who not only is a great chef but one of the kindest people we have ever encountered. He essentially cooked you anything you wanted, most of what comes from their own organic farm. Evans our " butler" was a sweetheart and really made our stay enjoyable. Daniel our driver was extremely knowledgeable and made our game drives all the more exciting! Definitely worthwhile to visit during the great migration, especially when you are lucky enough to see the crossing as we were. Dress warm as the nights during this time of year ( end July to early august) can get quite cold.  Thanks to the staff at ngerende lodge, we had a great honeymoon and look forward to returning soon!

We stayed in Ngerende two nights during our honeymoon and had an amazing time, with lots of romantic moments!! It was the best service experience we have ever seen - extremly personal, very professional and friendly. Our butler Walter was an absolute super star! He prepared us several nice surprises which left us totally speachless. Our safari guide Steve was very exprienced and knew answers to all our questions about the wilde life. He made us feel very safe even with lions walking by just few steps from our car. We appreciated a lot his effort to show us the most possible and taking lots of extra time - he really went out of his way.
Another big thank you should go to two excellent chefs who prepared us great meals not only in the lodge but also in the middle of safari (with all what you expect in a 5* restaurant!).
The villa was amazing - overlooking a river full of hypos. We absolutely enjoyed having an aromatic bath expecting us in the villa after our arrival from safari along with cracking fire in the bedroom.
I hope we go back soon!

Our family (2 adults and our 19 year old daughters) have just returned from the most memorable, luxurious holiday safari experience in the Masai Mara. Never before have we experienced such attentive, friendly and warm natured lodge staff, where nothing was too much trouble.

Where do we start? We were picked up by Steven (who became our fantastic safari guide and driver), at Ngerende airport and driven the short drive to the Ngerende Island Lodge. At the entrance, to our surprise (and there were many surprises that would follow!), were a group of neighbouring Masai warriors who welcomed us all, took our hands and then sung and danced with us to the lodge reception area. It was here that we were greeted and introduced to the lodge staff, who are refered to as family members not just employees. Their sole purpose is to ensure that you have the most wonderful experience. Over the 5 nights we were there, we became really friendly with so many of the staff, who clearly enjoy their work so much.
Location - Peaceful, idyllic location, set on an ox-bow lake on the Mara. There are only 7 lodges, which makes the location so exclusive. Hippos reside in the hippo pods around the lake.

The Lodges - excellent - we had 2 lodges - luxurious and very tasteful en-suite accomodation - see the photos on the website. We had our own 'butler', Rafael, who looked after us during our stay. He was brilliant and great fun - from looking after our lodges, whilst we were away on safari, to ensuring that when we returned, a hot bath had been ran and the fire in the lodge was lit. We were made to feel so special. Rafael was also our waiter and became a friend!

The safari drives - excellent. Steven, our Masai guide and driver, was the most experienced, humourous guide - so interesting, with his many stories and expertise. We asked him so many questions about the animals - he was so knowledgeable. He would instantly know where to find the animals and spot them what seemed miles off! We had great fun and felt we really got to know each other well. We certainly learnt a lot of Swahilli and he learnt a lot of Welsh! The Day Game Drive is well worth the visit aswell as the morning and evening drives in the reserve. Ensure you have plenty of memory on the camera - we took hundreds of photos. Steven had so many surprises for us, from the evening Sundowners - amazing - with stories around the Massai camp fire and tequila sunrises to our lunch out in the bush - unbelieveable!

Restaurant and Food - Both chefs, Issac and Willington prepared fantastic food, that was beautifully cooked out in the bush and at the lodge. The dishes are prepared with vegetables and herbs from their organic vegetable garden. If you have the time, ask if you can have a look around, Daniel, who looks after the garden, is only too happy to do so.

Pool and Spa - The beautiful Pool and Spa look over the Hippo pod.

Ngerende Island Lodge is a place where the service is excellent and you are made to feel so special by staff who are so friendly, warm and happy! Every attention to detail has been thought out. The lodges are luxurious beyond belief and provide the 'out of africa' fantasy!! Before we arrived, we too, read the fantastic reviews, but we too, were amazed at how fantastic it really is. We loved it and the only way to believe it is to experience it yourselves. We will certainly be returning.
