Kizingoni Beach
Reviewed December 29, 2013

From the moment we arrived, the staff at Pepo house with their discrete, friendly and unfaltering service put us in the holiday mood. The house is set a little back from the beach in beautiful tropical gardens and the rooms welcoming and immaculately kept.

For those of us who were in need of relaxation, lazing on the suspended day beds overlooking the beach at the front of the house watching the dhows slip by was exactly the tonic that was needed.

For the active there was Mo, Pepos boat captain, always on hand for morning and evening waterskiing sessions, along with snorkelling, an incredible, once in a lifetime, swim with wild dolphins and Jessica our yoga instructor, who took our classes on the roof terrace with fantastic views over the beach and water, never has warrior pose had such a beautiful and motivating outlook!!!

The food was perfect. From fresh fish and shellfish, fruit, homemade ice creams to the cake at afternoon tea it was always delicious and beautifully prepared. A couple of highlights were a magical candle lit supper on the beach of the most delicious seafood platter and sundowners on the dhow.

This place is truly wonderful and I could not recommend it more. A HUGE thank you to all the staff that made our stay so unforgettable. I shall be returning as soon as I can.

Thank you so much for your review of Kizingoni Beach, and sorry for the delayed response in thanking you. We are always so happy to hear from guests and to hear that they enjoyed their stay.

It is always lovely to hear what guests have been up to on their stay, and yoga is always a popular one. We are so glad you took advantage of our resident instructor - you are right, the views are perfect for a relaxing state of mind!

We hope you will visit us soon - Lamu is still as beautiful and safe as ever, with no troubles anywhere near our houses and we would love to have more people come and experience the area again.

Many thanks again.

It is easy to run out of superlatives when describing a holiday at Kizingoni Beach. Met on arrival at the small airport opposite bustling historical Lamu town by our friendly villa boatman Mo we were whisked passed mangrove swamps teeming with birdlife the 40mins exhilarating speed boat ride to the southern tip of Lamu island where Pepo House sits in beautiful gardens sheltered by dunes. For the next 4days we enjoyed fabulous unobtrusive hospitality from the wonderful staff. The meals were amazing with delicious seafood , fruit, homemade ice creams and the all important freshly baked cake at teatime, sundowners on the roof terrace or out on the large dhow gliding silently through crystal waters. For the energetic there was daily waterskiing , swimming , snorkelling , a memorable swim with large school of dolphins and walks along the pristine beaches but for the most part it was difficult to drag yourself away from the sunbeds suspended beneath palm thatched roofs gently rocked by the warm tropical breeze - a wonderful and relaxing break,

This was the 2nd time we've visited Kizingoni and stayed at Pepo House. The food and service are outstanding. After a few days you feel as if you are a million miles from anywhere.
The only thing that needs to be improved is that some of the furnishings and towels are looking a little tired and the internet service is intermittent at best. However it is a truly spectacular place and one I would highly recommend.

Thank you for your comments about the towels. They were changed immediately after hearing your comment and are now new and fluffy again. We also apologise for the poor internet connection... We try to get guests simply to disconnect from the world when they stay, however wifi is always important to keep in touch and we have added a better dongle to the house.

We hope you will visit us soon - Lamu is still as beautiful and safe as ever, with no troubles anywhere near our houses and we would love to have more people come and experience the area again.

We were lucky enough to return to Kuni Jogoo on Kizongoni Beach for 5 glorious days. Yet again it felt like we were stepping off the world into complete peace and paradise. Every desire is catered for from fresh delicious seafood meals to a wonderful massage by Winnie. The team of staff who looked after us were superb. Everything runs seamlessly and nothing is too much trouble. Definitely one of my favourite places in the world to completely relax in every way.

This was our second trip to Kizingoni Beach. We stayed at Kuni Jogoo both times. The welcome, the staff attention to detail, the food and the whole atmosphere is just what you want when you are on holiday. Stylish homely luxuary at its best. The beach is the most perfect swimming beach on the Kenyan coast and the sunset is always spectacular. There are a great many activities on offer from water skiing and yoga to excursions to Lamu and Shela. We just needed to relax and there just isn't a better place to do just that. The rooms are spacious and the decor of the whole house is beautifully in sync with the surroundings. The staff are there when you need them but discretely in the background when you need to relax. The seafood fare is just divine and the choices infinite. Families, couples and friends will just love this place. Having been back again its such a pleasure to see that the consistency has been maintained if not improved. Difficult to beat all round.

We spemnt a week at Kizingoni at Wazu Dabi House - there were 3 couples and lots of kids. The setting is operfect, fall out of the house onto the beach. The staff bend over backwards to accomodate you and the food is superb - we had a different flavour homemade sorbet/icecream daily for 7 days! The house is big enough not to have to feel you are stumbling over each other. we spend time fishing, running (to lamu Town), snorkling, skiing and just lounging in the midday heat.

I can honestly say that everybody in the group rated this as the most relaxing holiday they have ever had. No mobile phone, and pampered (massage daily). we will be back.

We spent two nights here just before we left Kenya. This was our third trip to Lamu in just a few months, and it was... wow. I can't say that we did very much, although all kinds of activities - including water skiing - were available. I would have given Kizingoni five stars if it wasn't for the sand flies - they were terrible, probably due to recent rains. So we barely left the property, even though the beach is right there. Not that we minded in the least. The pool was wonderful, with stunning views and incredibly comfortable daybeds. The food... I wish we could have stayed longer just to sample more of it! Grilled lobster, fish cakes, crab claws, red snapper curry... plus delicious desserts (home-made coconut ice cream, yum!), freshly squeezed juice, as much fruit as we could eat and lots of cake and tea! The rooms (chalets) were big and very private, although I don't think we had any hot water. In all fairness I don't think we bothered to have them look at it, and it was hot enough that we didn't really need it. All in all a VERY nice stay, with lots of privacy and wonderful food. I believe there are family villas as well as the chalets/bungalows for couples.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Jasmine bungalow, which is made with coral stone. Highly recommended - I think othe...

We agree with you that the sand flies can be an issue, however you are correct that they are only really bad for the short time after it rains, which in Lamu isnt often!

We hope you will visit us soon - Lamu is still as beautiful and safe as ever, with no troubles anywhere near our houses and we would love to have more people come and experience the area again.
