“A gastronomic experience”
Reviewed November 11, 2013

Landing in Kenya and being taken to this beautifully done up restaurant for an epicurean experience is the stuff of memories!
A gastronomical delight where every non vegetarian must visit. It serves seventeen varieties of meat from chicken to turkey to ostrich to crocodile!
Excellently laid out , colourful it is also a feast for the eyes! Do try their local brew dawa
The vegetarians have a minimal menu and the price a bit steep but definitely worth a visit!
a huge tandoor greets you at the entrance where enormous chunks of meat are being tenderized. served with a variety of sauces ..you have to remember which meat goes with which sauce and for this the waiters are all smiling and helpful as well.

“Pure tourist trip”
Reviewed November 10, 2013

Do not bother. This restaurant was part of a day long tour of Nairobi--you know, Karen Blixen house and Tea Room, Elephant orphanage, Giraffe feeding. Carnivore is pure tourist trap with a resident roving bartender offering native drinks (juice, booze, ice), and all the meat you can eat--chicken, beef, lamb, ostrich. Most of the meat is more gristle than nourishing protein and the sides are a bit strange. Skip this one and eat at your hotel.

“Nice but very touristy and they didn't serve everything listed!”
Reviewed November 7, 2013

We went with high expectations. We had mountains of meat but they didn't bring all the items listed on the board. The chicken wings and lamb chops were my favorite.

“Great novelty but no unusual meats”
Reviewed November 6, 2013

This is in all the tourist books and it shows. However, it was a great way to get to socialise with our newly met safari friends and going at lunchtime filled in most of the day before heading out on safari the next morning.
The meats are all beautifully cooked in a vast central area (those poor chefs must get so hot) which are brought to your table in an almost constant supply, making for a fun meal.
There used to be bush meats, such as zebra and impala, on the menu but these have been stopped. The most exotic meats are now ostrich and crocodile which come from farms.

“Was worth the wait”
Reviewed October 31, 2013

Had heard about the Carnivore for ages - and finally managed to make it last evening. Ambiance was good, service excellent and the quirks of the restaurant quite the thing: the circular pit barbecue, the waiters in zebra aprons, the Dawa man with his tray of 'Dawa' cocktails, etc. etc. Again - a light breakfast with no lunch is advised for folks planning to visit this restaurant. They give you a nice tray of condiments and salsa and salad and a fine half-loaf of home-baked bread - but these are incidental: it is meat that is central, almost unlimited and excellently cooked. Be warned - the name says it all, so if you are a picky meat eater or a vegetarian - you are wasting money and time going to this place! I loved it and would like to come back before all the blood values change! Special tip: they have ox testicles - grilled on the menu and these are really very, very good - so please don't miss them! Also - never forget to use the garlic sauce with the crocodile - it brings out the taste of the meat!
