Description: On the outskirts of Nairobi on the Langata Road is the world famous Carnivore, known as the Ultimate 'Beast of a Feast', a meat lovers den where a vast selection of succulent meats are charcoal grilled and carved at your table. Adjoining the Carnivore main restaurant is the 'Simba Saloon' - a vibrant informal a la carte restaurant with a childrens playground,

OK, so they don't serve crocodile meat or elephant balls or whatever this place made it's name on, but you would have thought the hype might have died down by now... but no, busloads of safari tourists are still transported here as if it is some kind of pilgrimage site for eating meat. Much of the meat I ate here was overcooked and chewy. The most difficult thing to stomach though, is the price, and the inordinate amount of time it takes to get away from this place - the only exit being onto the vast dawdling car park of Langata Road. So you spend five precious hours of your life to chew some overcooked dead animal and sit in a traffic jam for $40. Yippee-doo.

The Carnivore is the ultimate 'Beast of a Feast' A variety of meat including ostrich, crocodile and camel, t is roasted over charcoal and carved at your table. Delicious side dishes and an exceptional array of sauces complement this fixed price feast that also includes soup,a selection of desserts and Kenyan coffee. Set in attractive tropical gardens, the service and the décor are outstanding.

The Carnivore is also home of the Simba Saloon, a delicious a la carte restaurant by day and Nairobi's most popular nightclub. The informal indoor/outdoor atmosphere, exceptional snacks and the pulsating rhythms of Africa combine to ensure an exciting ambiance.

he Carnivore opened its doors in September 1980 to instant success. The food, service and atmosphere are strikingly different from anything ever seen in Kenya. The Carnivore is a meat specialty restaurant and it is referred to as 'the ultimate 'Beast of a Feast

The atmosphere of The Carnivore combines the rustic feel of a rural environment with the feeling of a medieval banqueting hall. This was accomplished by the use of streams and tropical gardens throughout the restaurant, and by using rough-hewn beams and local woods. Another famous feature to set the tone of the Carnivore experience is the house cocktail The 'Dawa' ( which means medicine or magic potion in Swahili).

My Husband & I enjoyed our meal there a looooot also they served Halal meat for Muslims

I had eaten at Carnivore years ago when game meat was also served but since the government has banned game meat from being served, the meat (accept bull balls, ostrich and crocodile) is good but rather ordinary.
I like salads but the way they are served makes them difficult to get unless you are sitting right in front of them where they are placed on the table.
We ate outside and the atmosphere was casual and fun.
I think the coffee was the best I have ever had in the 20 years I have been in Kenya.
The best part of the evening for me was being with friends. The food was 2nd.

The Carnivore Restaurant was an amazing experience for us. You are given a tray of salads & sauces with a flag on the top and the staff keep bringing around meat for you until you surrender and put down your flag.
The choice of meat was great and there was plenty of it. We were also served soup and vegetables with our BBQ meats. We had one vegetarian who was extremely happy with her vegetarian option so it caters for everyone.
If you are in Nairobi, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit.

We had a free evening in Nairobi after climbing Kilimanjaro and safari. Representative Davanu Shuttle express offered us dinner with pick up from the hotel to the restaurant and from Stopover hotel to airport for $ 40. All the time taxist was waiting for us. We tried several dishes-chicken, beef, lamb, ostrich, turkey, crocodiles, bull balls. Staff explains with what sauce to eat them. The kitchen is in the middle of the hall. You can see how huge leg roasts on the fire. Smell is amazing! Beer and juice are not included, we took Tusker. There are a lot of visitors their, several companies were celebrating a birthdays. Employees approached them with drums and sang a cheerful song. Decorations are very intriguing, in African style. You can eat meat as much as you can. At the end of the lunch- ice-cream and coffee. Then we danced at the disco 5-10 minutes. We just stayed there for 2.5 hours. It was a great final of our journey.
