game meat was banned a while ago, so don't expect alot of exotic meat. Some cuts were not fresh.

Carnivore Restaurant in Nairobi is not unique. I have eaten in these type of places where they serve your meant on a sword in Brazil, Argentina and Chile. But Carnivore was the best of the bunch. Very tasty. I ate everything they grilled, only the camel was too tough. The rest was all excellent. Be sure to have Dr. Dawa give you some of his medicine.
Hey, ok, it is sort of touristy. But I am a tourist. There were lots of locals there and businessmen also, so GO.

We almost missed going to Carnivore .. Plans were to go for dinner on Friday night , as part of our 2 week safari vacation in Kenya and Tanzania. But as luck would have it, we got caught up in real bad traffic from our hotel and could not make it there in time. Disappointed and distraught, we changed our itinerary for the next day and ensured that we were at Carnivore for Lunch the next day.

And it was well worth the effort. The atmosphere, the quality of food and service - specially if you are a meat eater - it was just too excellent. All varieties of meat were on the barbeque - ox, camel, ostrich, chicken, beef, pork, crocodile, turkey .. to name a few. There was a great variety available for vegetarians as well.

The concept of Eat as much as you can and we will serve you till you ask us to stop - was amazing and of course, we ended up overeating. The servers put up a flag on your table, and the idea is that you remove the flag when done to indicate Stop. The quality of meat was excellent and it was supplemented with good breads, soup and salads.

I recommend that if you drink, please try the DAWA - the mode and method of this vodka based cocktail is quite a spectacle itself. I enjoyed it so much that I had two, and realised later that it was quite a stiff drink - but a MUST do while at Carnivore.
The ambience is jungle - like and well done and spacious. The green surroundings made you feel like you were in the middle o fht ejungle and perhaps, eating the game meat !

I myself love meat so was really excited to hear about Carnivore where they serve you an unlimited quantity until you decide to give up. Although there was a lot of interesting choices like crocodile, ostrich and bull's testicles most of it just tasted like rubber. As a carnivore, I can't stand meat that is dry as cardboard and tough as rock. Nice restaurant atmosphere I guess..but that's really it. The guides call it a must go event in Nairobi, an event it was but a sad and dissapointing one.

Carnivore's days of glory ended when the Kenyan governement passed a law that forbids eating wild game - you now have to travel to South Africa to get a bite of antelope. The only exotic meats still being served are ostrich, camel and crocodile. The place is still famous for its Dawa cocktail. The atmopshere is resolutely touristy, since most tourist groups stop there, but it's rather fun an experience. The next door Simba saloon bar/nightclub attracts internationals and locals and offers more authentic an experience. Usually you can order Carnivore's food there.
