Nairobi has a small if excellent selection of fine eateries and Haandi is one of the best as well as most well established. Set in Westlands Mall (not Westgate Mall).
In the typical style of indian restauarants all over, the decor is a little odd and somewhat out of step with the food. Service however is excellent and I especially like the warm towel trick - always get oohs and aahs from newbies.
Offering a great wine list (for Nairobi) and the usual selection of beers and soft drink you will find something to wet your wistle prior to tucking in... that starting with the a couple of the very fresh poppadums and some rather spicy and sweet dipping sauces complemented by some crunch fresh veg also good for dipping.
As expected, the menu is pretty extensive - I for one can only ever order the tandoori mixed platter (soooooo tasty) and a keema naan (not on the menu but they will make it if you ask) - they also have the most stupendous cheese naan but the calorie concious should avoid!
I have always filled up too much to even contemplate a dessert but still eye the delights passing by. A must for any Nairobi visitor looking to get away from the garden scene or out of the hotels.
The location is easily reached and serviced by plenty of taxis (with an ATM downstairs in the mall) and the price? Well, at just over 2,000 Shillings the mixed tandoori platter (around £15) is about the most expensive dish - most are around the 1,000 mark (fairly standard in Nairobi now) and wine will bump it up quite a bit. Nonetheless, the quality is here and it is consistent (I have been dining there since 2005) and you won't be disappointed.
