Jacaranda Nairobi Hotel
Ranked #43 of 169 Hotels in Nairobi
Reviewed July 3, 2012

I stayed at the Jacaranda Hotel on a business trip. The most important recommendation of this hotel is its location. It is in the middle of Westlands, off Wayaki Way, right next to the Sarit Centre and within 5 minutes of Westgate. There are ATMs across the way. It also has one or two good restaurants close by. This is useful because the in-house food is extremely over-priced by Nairobi restaurant standards but also given the very average standard of the food served. You won't want to eat in.

I also noted that I was quoted in USD but billed in Kenyan Shillings at a very unfavourable rate. If you are asking for a quotation from this and any other Kenyan hotel, insist on KSH at the start in order to make realistic comparisons. It can mean the difference between USD180 and USD200 per night.

Otherwise, the staff were helpful and the standard of the rooms was good.

Room Tip: Other travellers have complained about the noise from the pizza garden but I didn't experience t...

I recently stayed 3 nights at this Hotel following a month long journey around East Africa.
We found this hotel to be in an area where we felt safe to walk around both during daytime and night. There are many security guards on duty at night and with usual precautions you should experience no problems.
The hotel is well located with the Sarit Centre close by and within a 20 minute walk to the Westlands Mall Shopping Centre. There is a large curio market nearby to visit during daylight hours only though!!
Taxis are readily available by the Sarit Centre.
The breakfast spread is absolutely fantastic and very fresh and the service is also first class.
While there we did a day trip to visit The David Sheldrick Elephant Orhanage, The Giraffe Manor and Karen Blixen House museum. The trip was organised by African Wildcat Adventure Safaris and was fantastic and well worth it. I recommend this day trip to any visitir to Nairobi.
Overall I found the staff service to be prompt and responsive. The conceirge was very helpful in re-confirming onward flights for us.
This is a nice peacful hotel and has a very safe feel about it

Room Tip: Try to have room towards the rear of property as on Friday and Saturday nights a nearby Disco/Bar is...

I've found it difficult to rate this hotel; it's better than average, but not sure it's "very good"! Stayed here before and after a safari, at the end of a business trip. We had been staying in the "real"Kenya, with friends, so the Western toilet facilities and feel to the place was welcome. Sitting out by the pool in the lovely peaceful gardens it's hard to believe you're in the middle of a capital city. Breakfast was good, with a large selection including Kenyan porridge and fresh fruit. Our room overlooked the bar and pool, and was comfortable and reasonably clean, if perhaps in need of some work. (nothing major: handle missing over bath, worn carpet etc.) The staff were quite attentive. We had to cancel plans to travel to the elephant orphanage, due to my friend feeling unwell, and they immediately offered to call a doctor, and enquired after her later. There's a shopping centre with large supermarket just over the road, and it's easy to jump on a bus or matatu for the city centre. From speaking to other travellers, I think it was a little over priced for what it was, but I'd go back.

The services and facilities are great. The staff is very friendly and always available to help. I thoroughly enjoyed the gym filled with quality equipment and nice environment. The breakfast buffet is also brilliant - good selection. The price of $250 per night is simply too expensive. Otherwise highly recommended.

The best thing about the Jacaranda is that it is quiet and peaceful inspite of being located in Westlands. The rooms are decent sized, though not air conditioned - you have to make do with a ceiling fan (noisy at times). The staff is very friendly and make up for the delays that are a standard feature in Kenya. The hotel is surrounded by gardens and the swimming pool is quite nice - especially the poolside bar. The wifi is inconsistent - but at least it works!! Moderately priced compared to the overpriced hotels in that part of town.

Stayed here for 4 days for a meeting. Rooms were nice and light, they face outwards, which is nice instead of being inside on a corridor. Good location and surrounded by gardens. Decent breakfast selection and good gym.

I especially enjoyed the Aroma Therapy, Gym and Swimming pool. The staff were friendly and the service good except with one or two of their recent hires. Conveniently near the city centre and not far from the airports, Wilson A/port and JKIA.

Room Tip: Get room overlooking the pool... quieter other rooms too much traffic noise
