I spent a week at the Grand Royal Hotel in late January 2014. The room was OK--no hot water for several days, but working wi-fi after the first day. What really stood out was the staff of the hotel. I had never been in Eastleigh before, and really felt like the staff looked out for me: getting me taxis and advising me how much I should pay, adding value to my mobile phone, working diligently to fix the internet in my room, and advising me as to safety in areas outside the hotel. In many mid-range hotels, guests are anonymous, but at the Grand Royal, I really felt that I was looked after and taken care of--I was greeted every day by hotel staff morning and evening. As an American in a foreign world, I really appreciate this, and I recommend the Grand Royal Hotel. Don't pay by credit card in advance--this is a webscam--instead, call up the hotel directly to make your reservation, and pay in cash once you're there. But this is a good place to stay while you're in Eastleigh: I'd return without a moment's hesitation.
