“Not very impressive”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

i attended a party there and it was a disappointment, food was mediocre, service bad, food is very very very expensive then it tastes like what your house girl would cook.
if your a tourist try it out & to get to know what Kenyan food is about,
if your a resident go eat somewhere else
overall i would not come back

“dishonest owner”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

Yes, the food is good, and great setting, but beware of dishonest practices. The quoted prices were not even close to the final billing, they tried to force us to pay a $200 (US) "credit fee", grossly overcharged on the bar tab, and when we presented the owner with the discrepencies, she would not dispute them, but still insisted on the grossly inflated tab. I was told by a Kenyan at the restaurant that night that this happens frequently with foreign visitors.

“Great place to bring groups of friends or business colleagues”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

I brought a group of friends and business colleagues to Amaica and we had a wonderful experience. Charming atmosphere and staff. I highly recommend the buffet. It allowed our guest to try a wide variety of Kenyan dishes. The staff explained how the dishes were prepared and menu is very extensive. I will be bringing more visitors. Next time I will also plan a visit in the late afternoon to shop at Spinner's Web (next door) then go to Amaica for dinner.

“A special place in the heart of Westlands”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

Amaica is an authentic restaurant that showcases the best of Kenyan cuisine beyond the plethora of goat meat, ugali and sukumawiki that you find everywhere. There is something for everyone but keep the pizza and KFC mentality at home. Decor is tastefully done and the restaurant has lots of seating areas. The outside patio is a prime location. There's also a jungle gym for kids.

“Don't know why this place isn't more popular”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

We've eaten here several times, and each has been a good experience. Once, we were offered a buffet and the others time ordered off the menu. I like going here with out-of-town visitors to give them a sense of Kenyan food. The menu is quite extensive, with choices representing cuisine from all over the country. It's not the greatest food on the planet, but there is a wide range of flavorful dishes, many of them things you may not have tried but are well worth tasting (like pumpkin greens). The setting is very pleasant, with a big terrace and view of the Karura Forest. There's a playground for children. The only odd thing is that each time we have been there, it has been nearly empty. I'm not sure how they stay in business, and I think they deserve more credit and business.
