“An oasis in Nairobi”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2014

Awesome place and a great retreat and getaway for the weary traveller or hard working Nairobi people. It is one of those places you relax into as arrive at the lovely setting and gardens. The staff are attentive and professional and the food is superb, especially the squid and pomegranate. The spa is the best in Nairobi. Booking essential even in the off season !!

The Hemingway, Nairobi was in an absolutely beautiful setting. Newly built with a excellent staff and food as well. It is well located in one of the more prestigious areas of Nairobi. It was extremely well appointed with a beautiful pool and lobby. This is a great place to begin your African journey.

Room Tip: Any room, as they have a limited number, would be great.

This place is the worst. The management (especially in the spa) is terribly rude. The food is terrible, especially for the price. The atmosphere is stuffy and has a strange chlorine smell. I would recommend Talisman nearby for great food, the Sankara spa, and the Karen Blixen coffee cottages to stay. DO not got here.

We recently used Hemingways as a base for our wedding in Karen. We had 16 people in the party and stayed at Hemingways for approximately one week. The entire group is unanimous in their praise for both the facility and the staff. Everyone said they would plan to stay there on their next visit to Nairobi.
Since the hotel was our base, we enjoyed many first rate meals in the dining room and held the rehearsal dinner there as well. The rooms are very large and nicely appointed with balconies overlooking the meticulously manicured grounds. I cannot overstate the attentiveness of the entire staff. The butler service was exceptional. The spa service was excellent.

The location is convenient to both airports, the Giraffe Center, Sheldrick Center and great restaurants.

We have stayed at many top rated hotels in Narobi on previous trips. Hemingways is a level above. Hemingways is our home away from home in Nairobi.

Room Tip: Ask for a room close to the reception area and dining room for a shorter walk.

My brother and I stayed at Hemingway's on our way through Nairobi on a 3 week Kenya Safari in July this year.

Most travelers who stay at Hemingway's as well as the Giraffe Manor, do so on overnight stops in between transfers to the Safari areas.

Hemingway's is a solid option for those wanting five star service and excellent accommodations. I would echo all of the reviews in previously written comments on this site with only a couple of additional comments.

First, since I was traveling with my brother, we had requested twin bedded accommodations. We booked our accommodations at Hemingway's with Abercrombie and Kent about a year prior to our arrival, so well in advance!

When we arrived at the hotel and we were taken to our room, we noticed a king bed and rollaway bed in a corner. We were a little bit upset with this as we had specifically requested a twin bed in room, and it didn't seem reasonable at the price per person including breakfast that one of us should sleep on a rollaway bed.

When this was brought to the attention of management via our ground representative at Abercrombie and Kent, the hotel quickly provided a second room for my brother and separate room for me.

Unfortunately on the fourth day of our trip, when we were in Samburu region, I broke my arm and we had to return to Nairobi to be transferred back out to the States. Abercrombie and Kent was able to secure us another room at the Hemingway's waiting for our departure back to the States. Oddly, once again, we were given a king bedroom with a rollaway bed. At this point we were relatively desperate, I was injured, so we just stayed in our room. I continue to find it odd that a hotel of the stature doesn't seem to have rooms with twin beds. If you do not want a king bed, best confirm you will not end up on a roll away at $800 per night per person!

The other somewhat inconvenient aspect of staying at Hemingway's is their Butler system. Whenever you need anything you have a butler assigned to your room. This seems to be standard practice at many of the hotels in West Africa.

However at Hemingway's it becomes a little bit inconvenient because when you call for your butler you end up getting a receptionist, she takes your name and number and then you are informed your Butler has to call you back. sometimes it takes 10 or 15 minutes for that to happen. So when you order room service not only do you have to wait the normal time for the food 30-45 min....but you have to wait 10 or 15 minutes for the butler to call you back so you can give him your order. You cant simply call room service directly so it almost doubles the amount of time it takes to order any room service.

Aside from that though, the rooms are beautifully appointed, and with the exception of a lack of hairdryers in the room, each room had very lovely bathrooms good size closets, mini safe , fantastic wifi and everything you would expect at a five-star facility. Also, the included buffet breakfast in the morning is spectacular with wonderful service from the restaurant management.

Overall a fine option in my Nairobi.

Room Tip: Watch out of you request a twin room..not sure they have them.

Its a truly beautify hotel the staff seems a little undertrained. It was a great experience. Heathclub
was a little small. Food was very good. Very relaxing but walk to room was a little long. Rented driver was both affordable and a great guide.

I returned back to my second home last week. It was another Amazing experience. I stayed for 7 days and enjoyed each and every minute of my time at Hemingway's. This is one of the most stunning properties in Nairobi a true 5 Star Resort. It was my second time back and I am returning again in September. It is the only property that I have found where the pictures on the website are actually get when you arrive. What makes this property Amazing is the beautiful and impeccable grounds, lobby and most important the Staff and the service. If you want to feel like a princess or rock star this is the place to stay. The entire staff is warm, friendly and there to take care of you 24/7. It truly feels like home. The rooms are stunning with wonderful balconies however very private. The food fabulous love the risotto, butternut squash soup etc. all mouth watering and delicious. I can not say enough about Hemingway's it is by far the most Fantastic Place I have ever stayed at and will return again and again. There are plenty of things to do that are very close by. The Staff is more than willing to help plan your outings and arrange all your transportation needs. Over all Outstanding Property, Impeccable Staff just Stunning surroundings. Do yourself a favor and book your stay at Heminway's you will not be disappointed, in fact your will find it hard to leave.

Room Tip: There is not a bad room on the entire property.
