Description: The Aero Club of East Africa was founded in 1927 by the aviation pioneers who opened up the frontiers of Africa. It still retains that 1930s romantic charm and historical ambience. The club is the only restaurant at Wilson Airport, four km from Nairobi’s central business district on the Langata Road. It is on the edge of the Athi Plains, with easy access to the Nairobi National Park and Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The restaurant has inside dining, a large eating deck and tables in the garden and by the swimming pool. It overlooks Wilson’s 007 runway and is an ideal spot to spend the hours before you leave on safari or to unwind on your return and watch planes and helicopters land and take off while soaking up the atmosphere in this legendary piece of Kenya’s aviation history. Chef Neil McCarthy and the Creative Kitchen Co. team moved into the restaurant at the Aero Club of East Africa on 1st October 2011. Neil has cooked and consulted all over the world, from London’s Mayfair Hotel and the Moscow Metropole to California’s vineyards and top-range hotels across Africa, including the Mt. Kenya Safari Club and Nairobi’s Tribe hotel. He is famous for his tasty gourmet burgers and dry-rub spicy BBQ ribs. He creates tasty international buffets and a la carte specialties. Sinful puddings include his New York style, melt in your mouth, baked cheese cake and home baked apple pie. He serves mouthwatering and seriously satisfying food.

“Sorry excuse for a sunday roast”
Reviewed February 24, 2014

I can't believe that just a year ago I proclaimed this to be the place that served the best sunday roast in Nairobi.
Fast forward a year and the beef was overcooked and dry, the vegetables too crunchy, no yorkshire pudding in sight and a super starchy gravy that made Bisto look like haute cuisine.
Sad sad, when I asked they told me the chef was still the same one.
What happened?

Oh and don't get me on the subject of the Bloody Maries. Disappointment squared.

“The best spot in Wilson”
Reviewed January 30, 2014

We visited the Aero Club to fill the time between arriving on the 'overnight' flight from Zimbabwe (it takes 3 hours) and flying to Lamu from Wilson.

They provided an excellent breakfast at 7am and a clean and comfortable day-room to sleep until we rose at 1pm.

The club is a little corner of history, having been founded in the 1920s by the first aviators in East Africa. There are memorabilia everywhere and a slight old-fashioned style, while not being stuffy. The other guests were all pilots and very friendly.

“A little bit different”
Reviewed January 6, 2014

If you need an overnight stop at either airport this would be my recommendation. The place is a little different in that it was originally built as a pilot's hang out, and so the rooms are a little basic. However, with their new chef they serve superb breakfast and dinner, and all at a remarkably good rate.

“Amazing decor”
Reviewed December 29, 2013

This is a great place to have lunch when arriving or departing from Wilson Airport. You can watch the planes and helicopters arriving and taking off while sitting in the outdoor area. The decor was very interesting, and there is lots of information about the history of aviation in Kenya. The staff was friendly and willing to show us around. The lunch menu is basic, but the burgers were exceptionally good, as was the chicken curry. The starters were also very good.
