Owner description: The African Heritage House overlooking the Nairobi National Park is described by the Architectural Digest as "an architecture arising from the sere Kenyan plain like an outcropping of earth, a vision of usefulness informed by the African genius for decoration" .Inside one journeys through a spectrum of African textiles, masks, art, artifacts, crafts, books and photographs. Designed by American Alan Donovan, co-founder of the African Heritage, Africa's first Pan African Gallery, the house is a combination of the mud architecture from across Africa. Tours cost a minimum of K. Sh. 3000.00 (about $40) for up to 5 persons and thereafter K. Sh. 500 for each additional person.

“This is a jewel - not to be missed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2014

Alan Donovan has one of the finest collections of African art in his own home. He guides the tour. You can stay there while it is still a B and B. It may not be for long. Any visitor to Kenya should take the time to see three stories of a lovingly collected and displayed body of work. And then you get fed. Expect to spend 4 to 5 hours there. Just amazing. Nairobi National Park is Alan's back yard.

“The most amazing house in Nairobi”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2013

The developer/owner of this house is Alan Donovan, and he is a truly unique individual. We were so glad that we took the time to visit Alan to not only see every room while listening to his stories about many of the artifacts but also enjoy a specially prepared dinner with him. No one else in Africa has dedicated his home to the love of all that is Africa. I bought a necklace that he had made and will never forget his hospitality.

“A wonderful experience. Not to be missed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 18, 2013

In mid-October, my friend and I had the great pleasure of visiting Alan Donovan at his beautiful home overlooking the Nairobi National Park. Alan was a marvellous host, providing us with a highly informative tour of his magnificent unique collection of African artifacts, a swim in his exquisite pool listening surrounded by beautiful sculpture, plants, and music by Ayub Ogada, and a wonderful dinner. Alan has devoted his life to preserving the art, architecture and knowledge of many African tribes and his home is a magnificent reflection of the wonders of Africa. Cannot recommend a visit and stay to African Heritage House highly enough.

“Take the Tour AND Stay Overnight”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 21, 2013

This place is a treasure and not to be missed. If you can, stay overnight here on a b and b basis, and the tour will be included. Alan Donovan, the owner, is a charming, gracious and knowledgeable host. You won't regret your visit!

“Unique, once in a lifetime experience, not to be missed.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 2, 2013

African Heritage House is a rare treasure and experience one will never forget. I cant believe I lived in Nairobi for years without knowing about it. Now every visitor/volunteer I have must visit Alan Donovan and his fabulous home and museum of art and treasures from all around Africa. Each visit is different and personal. You need to contact Alan and book in advance and his personal staff will fix you a delicious African stye meal. Alan, who has live and traveled Africa for many years, share a relaxed meal with you and his stories bring Africa to life in a new way. Every room in the house is filled with remarkable pieces you will be allowed to photograph and ask questions about. A visit with Alan at African Heritage add richness, quality and history to your time in Kenya. Don't miss it! The cost of about $30 for the tour and dinner is one of the best values in Nairobi.
