Since we had just come off a safari, we were not too keen to see more giraffes and elephants so we chose three attractions in Nairobi to fill up our waiting time for our late night flight home. We chose the National Museum, Kazuri Bead Factory and Karen Blixen Museum. One thing we really liked about the attractions we chose was that each one has a guide assigned to you to explain or answer any questions you might have. Since we had just completed a two-week safari, we were really excited to be able to identify the animals and birds we had just seen. For the animals we had missed, it was nice to see and talk about them and their habits. There was also a hall devoted to the history of Kenya, from Olduvai Gorge to pre-colonialism, the arrival of Europeans and the road to Kenyan independence. We could have spent more time there but had used up our allotted time in the bird hall. Over 100 species of birds are found in Kenya and we enjoyed looking at all of them, especially the lilac breasted roller, which we saw all over Kenya and Tanzania. If you are at all interested in natural history and/or political history you will enjoy this Museum

Nice place to spend 2 hrs +. ( can spend much longer, Depends on your taste)

The residents entry is at 600 KSH each( alien card etc)

You see the political history, education, railways, geography, human and animal history. It has art and craft too.

It is on ground and 1st Floor. Well spaced. Open. The shop offers good stuff if some one is interested in buying.

I loved it. Must visit if staying @ kenya. If on a short visit then maybe avoidable though.

Now this is something else! Think animals, think political history, think art, think the history of mankind! It’s all there!
The exhibition on the archeological finds is most impressive.
Why didn’t I come here as a pupil? I finally got to meet homo erectus!

It was good to learn Kenya's history, and see the different species of birds and wildlife ... great for families... easy tour around museum , not heavy with information . You can go at your own pace

We loved our day at the museum! We expected to stay 2 hours and stayed the entire day. They have a wonderful large permanent bird exhibit of East African birds and the history of Kenya permanent exhibit is also excellent. We learned so much. Great gift shops and restaurant. The associated Snake Museum on the grounds was interesting just because we were interested in seeing a Black Mamba and other famous poisonous Kenyan snakes. The snakes were ok but not life changing.
