It's a large well maintained museum that has a little about the natural history of Kenya, the culture and animals. An interesting section is the one about fossilised skulls and skeletons found in the country. It's a subject they're familiar with since theory has it that homo sapiens originated in the Rift Valley in Kenya. I think two hours here is sufficient to get around and read bits and pieces. The ticket deal that joins the entry fee of this museum along with the nearby snake park is recommended.

The museum is very wounderful. I learned a lot and I loved it...but the restaurant needs a make over. The National Museums of Kenya should look into that. May introduce java coffee house in the mix!

Overall, it was a nice experience. I went during a weekday so it may have been less crowded than on weekends but there were still a lot of schoolchildren on field trips while I was there.

The museum itself is nicely organized and has some interesting displays, including early human/hominid skeletons.

I opted for the ticket that included the 'snake park' which was a nice way to end off the tour (did not opt for a guided tour -- it's not necessary if you have your map and paper guide). If you have some spare time on an afternoon or a day to spend in Nairobi, this is a nice way to spend the day. It isn't spectacular but it is nice.

If you have a couple of hours to kill, then visit the Museum. It takes you through all the natural history of Kenya with a walk through the the animals, birds and fauna you are likely to encounter.
There is also a history of how the British ended up in Kenya aswell as all the issues that it brought as well as the legacies that have been left.
I found the parts on the main tribes of Kenya, their migrations and how then used to live very interesting.
A must see is the part on Human Evolution & the skulls and bones of some of the earliest humans to walk the earth, how they used to live and how humanity spread & evolved.
Not too expensive & an intersting insight into a facination Country

the museum offers a detailed history of Kenya and the Kenyan culture from colonial era to date. the bird gallery is very detailed and informative. my favourite bit was the prehistoric gallery that showcases how Africa and especially Kenya is the Cradle of Mankind. Very impressive!
