Owner description: Noble black rhinos are the highlight of this amazing park, Kenya’s first national park and a local treasure.

First time experience at a Wildlife park which is very close to the city of Nairobi. A very expansive place with the welcome dance by the Massai. It was a very cold morning and we drove through the park seeing the Rhino, Zebra, Anteloppe and Ostrich among other animals. Sadly, the Lions were to cold to come out and that was a BIG disappointment.

To see the the best of these animals avoid Nairobia in the Months of June and July which is the winter season. Overall it was a great experience but sure Yankari games reserve in Bauchi Nigeria would have offered more!

We had organized a private driver who fetched us from the place we were staying and arrived early at the park gates. Within minutes of driving through the gates, we had seen animals. They have the big five here, we only managed to see Lion, Buffalo and Rhino but was well worth the day out. We saw plenty of other animals too. There is also a baby elephant orphanage in the park, which was a real highlight as well.

Minutes from the center of Nairobi, this National Park provides easy access to amazing wildlife. Emerging from the forested area out onto the open plain with the morning mist hanging just over the ground is a beautiful sight, and it only gets better. Our driver did a great job locating the different groups of animals, conversing with other drivers to discuss sightings, and stopping whenever we asked if we had a sighting. Unbelievable how close we were able to get to so many of the animals.. mere feet from 2 separate prides of lions (having dinner, no less!), black rhinos, buffalo, and more.

Tips - make sure you arrange a tour in a vehicle with an open top. We pitied the people we saw in normal cars as their views were quite limited. Also, when the driver asks if you want to shop for souvenirs, be specific if you want to go to the shop at the Park entrance - otherwise you'll be taken to a private shop where there's no set prices.. you're just expected to haggle.

I went in the morning with friends. We managed to join a lone tourist in a big safari car (the KWS 4x4 driver was not there yet at 7:30--call ahead if you want to use their car). We had to leave by 10am, and still we saw a momma lion nursing her pups (!), some sleeping male lions (!!), three small cats--maybe servals, a giraffe, buffalo, and antelope in two hours. Super cool.

However, the level of professionalism was very low. We saw one safari vehicle hit a private car, and another off-roading unnecessarily. Our own driver drove very fast and aggressively, and was slow to respond to our requests of "stop" and "back up", which was unfortunate as we seemed to have better eyes for cats than he did! If you care about these things, try to book with a legit company, or go with a KWS guide (I'm generally impressed by the KWS).

Very interesting safari was able to see wildlife, the game drives were great, and the guides were very well conversant with the trails.
