Excellent variety of wildlife, only a short drive from Nairobi, so even if you are ony in the city for 1 day, this is a top option. A chance to be on safari for the price of the park entrance fees. If you don't have a car, just hire a local taxi in the city to drive you around, no problem. Top tip : Ask park staff at the entrance where the best sightings are that day ie where the animals are hanging out.

This park is so close to the city that it is harder to see things you would see at the Mara for example. If you want more nature and wildlife I would suggest one of the other parks. It is beautiful though and a nice place to escape if you live in the city.

Although only in town (Nairobi) for a limited time, my friend had organised a morning trip to this park, which is nigh-on next door to the city. I was obviously dubious about being so close to "human life" but as there were three of us I decided that it was better than nothing and as I have already done the Serengeti, etc. We arrived at 06.00 hours and were in by 06.30. We were alone - no other cars at that hour. By 08.30 we had seen lions (in couples as it was the mating season), rhinos, ostrich, buffalo, zebra, a croc, macaques, hyenas and loads of birds. Although we did not see giraffe (or leopards) on that occasion, it was still a fabulous 2 hours. This was followed by a picnic which we had prepared in advance and as we sat down to munch on chicken and drink champage, a large male baboon decided to eat all the meat in a lightning attack - so beware because they are fast. But all in all, much easier to see the animals than the larger parks.

The Nairobi National Park is one of the only National parks of its kind to be situated right next to a city like Nairobi in the world. It literally takes only 15 to 20 Mins on a sunday morning to reach the park. Its USD 40 for tourists, Ksh 1000 for residents and Ksh 300 for Kenyans. The park is good place for peopel living in Nairobi busy enough who cannot find time for masai mara or the other parks of kenya or for those transiting ones who would like catch a glimpse of how the african wild looks like. I have personally see 3 lions, a giraffe, a croc, a white rihno, a hippo and was quite pleased. But for the hard core ones a visit to mara or nakuru or some of the other ones woud be much better.

A day spent at the Nairobi National Park and the adjacent Nairobi Animal Orphanage is a great way to feel rested and at one with nature without having to spend time out of the city. Sadly, there are very few rhinos now. We spotted all the other big five though.
